I agree the early led`s relied on a lot of chips to attain light output but not focus.
These Gen 4 led`s have 2 x EHP 50 chips set at the same focal point as the H7 halogen filament so focus well, not cheap but they work.

If I fit one of these 4th Gen LED conversions to my Merc jam jar, will the bulb failure warning system still tell me that all s OK ?

I have not had a problem with the can bus on the R1200GS. ( no lamp f ) Best to email Horizons regards your Merc.
