I'm confused -

The F650GS is actually an 800cc twin?

The F800GS is also an 800cc twin?

What about the single cylinder models, then - how can I tell which is which when looking at adverts, and then there was the Funduro?

Please explain!!!

Mike

The old F650 (pre 2008 I think) was a single at 650cc (sometimes referred to as a twin spark to add confusion)

Later F650GS is a twin 800cc with a detuned engine from the F800GS

The new naming scheme is:-
F means it is a twin.
G means it is a single

Soon the F650GS twin will be replaced by the F700GS which is very similar with a slightly more powerful 800cc engine

BMW have done this for years in their cars. The 316, 318 and 320 all share a 2 litre engine. They often indicate a smaller engine size when the engine has been detuned. I think it started with the 525. It had a 2.8 litre engine, but was detuned specifically to match an auto box. As the performance was closer to the 2.5, that's what they called it.
