Could this be caused by my fuel filter

At a constant rpm around 3,500 my GS appears to cut out but as soon as i open the throttle it's fine.

You'd not notice it unless you travel at a constant throttle.

It's due a fuel filter change and I did wonder if this is the first sign of the old one getting blocked.

Any views?

I had similar symptoms. Started at high revs, but spread throughout the rev range. Didn't like constant throttle.

Best course of action for you would be to spend £20 to have the diagnostics read. It could be a failure of some part of the motronic system. (My problem eventually traced to a faulty lamda sensor).

Wont do any harm to change the filter, spark plugs, balance the throttle bodies, set the TPS voltage, tappet adjust etc, of course.

Sorry to put more possibilities in but.......

Had a problem last year in Europe. Started out occaisonally missing and steadily got worse. Had tank drained and new fuel - no good. In Italy had the filter changed [as the Swiss apperently didn't!]. Yet again still would splutter and cough but kept going if I kept the revs high. It was erratic and not in a particular rev range nor was it all the time that it would happen. Got back to UK and into North Oxford. They were more thorough and replaced ALL the handlebar switch gear - 5 miles down the road...guess what!?

Well back in and the bike was stripped down [thank God this was all under the extended warranty I had taken out, as the bill was now over £1200 with hotels, hire cars, expenses etc!].

The problem was found. It was the fuse for my Datatool Alarm. One of the legs/prongs had fractured and was breaking contact intermittently causing the ignition to cut off temporarily hence the problems. Good ol' North Oxford rewired the alarm [Hughenden M40 hadn't done it to ignition AND fuel pump - only fuel pump] and replaced the fuse. CURED! All because of that one poxy fuse!

So at a long shot, outside 1 in a million chance you have a datatool alarm and in line fuse fitted....check the fuse!
