Could you have a look at this GS and see what you think

That looks like a pretty decent bike

And 39k is not high mileage at all

Mines a 2004 and 55k on it which is still IMHO low milage

If it's been looked after the milage is pretty much irrelevant

Yes I keep hearing/reading about how the GS is good for high mileages. (I suppose that's in its design brief).
Is that mainly down to the fact it's a low reving /stressed motor?
I'm not used to trading a bike is with 1/10th mileage and paying extra towards a slightly older bike lol

All modern bikes should be good for high miles if properly serviced. Ancillaries like front and rear suspension units might be a different matter so check those carefully for leaks and take it for a test ride if you can. My one concern about this bike would be the servo brake system fitted to BMs of that age. Ask about that: the abs and servo might have been removed by a PO. At the very least, ensure that the brake fluid has been changed on a regular service cycle.

Why not flog your R6 privately and look on this site for a GS?

Thanks for the info.
I might go and have a look at it later today and see what all the invoices etc have to say.
Good point about the shocks etc. I'd not thought about that.
Yes I may be best doing that.
I'll have a chat with the shop and see what they have to say.

Meh! Went to see the GS this afternoon. Maybe I'm after too much, but I thought it was a bit scabby :-( paint on the engine cases and a bit of fastener corrosion. Took the R6 down and didn't even bother to tell them I'd brought it down to get it valued. Walked back out the door quick sharp.

Golden Rule.

Never buy the first bike (or car come to that) that you look at.

Do your homework, look at a few.

You will then know a good one when you see it.

It sounds to me like you have the same standards as I do, in which case you'll have to go to Germany and pay a handsome sum to get what you're looking for. That's what I did. As Dr Nosh said, do some research on the specific faults to look for on these bikes, so you'll know what you're looking for.

Yes, I've seen one or two now and I can already see a few things to look at.
