Well I’ve done a couple of thousand miles now I’m over 50000 miles
Thoughts
Great bike did wales yesterday and was surprised how good it was on the motorway
Nice comfortable place
I’m using it more than any other of my bikes
I wear ear plugs as I suffer with my ears
I blame the wife’s voice
I went to the shops and didn’t put my earplugs in and the gearbox sounded whiny
Could have always been like that but hey
If it does detonate what are my options?
A couple of photos of said bus
Just about to go out in the sun on it
👍

Good on yer... Mine was off the road for three weeks while I sorted an MOT around my bloody work... The Pan got some extra miles...👍 Back using it, even with front pads still bedding in, just reminds me how easy going they are... Any time, any weather, any realistic speed...😁
What age is yours again re yr gearbox?

It’s a 1994 early problem box I beleive

Have a read... Very good writeup of the different boxes .. I've had 3 M94s withe two kept long enough to need work... 1st one preventative, 2nd one a failure on the taper bearing... M97s are much less of a problem... People like Steptoe and Mikeyboy are oilheads gearbox folk if you eventually need work doing...

I actually love this place
Ask a question
Get a non judgemental answer
Smatter of sarcasm now and again
I’ll do a read up on them now
👍

Ah yeah, I do remember reating Largider's article some time ago.

I'll probably never know if mine has wear because I've started to use a Motul gear oil full of moly, so it's opaque grey. Gives a much improved shift I reckon.

Just for reference
My gear change is fine
No missed gears
I just think it’s a bit whiny
It might be how they are

My M94 failure was probably flake of Ali from the selector fork jamming up the open taper... Sort of a couple of unintended consequences of the mods with M93 box and the R1100 move to Ali forks with a hardened coating... M94 had all open bearings with tapers being much harder to flow crap through than the other ball bearings... The tapers always seemed to have a slight rumble but could develop to a more noticeable one whichh would stop with the clutch in and the input shaft disengaged...
Obviously Ali is non magnetic so would not stick to the drain plug..
M97 have rubber sealed roller bearings all round and that is the rebuild mod to eliminate the tapers... Hence the use of experienced box builders mentioned previously as they need reshimming...
Steve Scriminger did my failed box but he had health issues soon after...
