... A lady with a set of her sisters leathers and the rest from cotters. (boots, lid and gloves for 200 quid. A justissimo no less. No box but there you go. Thankyou Simon. :) )

Any tips for training her in? I'm not joking. Getting suited and booted tomorrow for a slow speed 'get to know the bike' in the underground carpark. Spin round the block sort of thing. Want her to enjoy it...

All advice welcome.

CALLIN' TUNED . .

' . .Come single belle & beau, unto me pay attention . .'

ride slowly and concentrate on being smooher than a baby's bottom. :D

Agree a signal so that she can indicate she is happy to speed up and one that shows she is approaching the edge of her comfort zone. These can be as 'creative' as you want, dependant on how far your other riding has progressed :augie

I'm guessing you've not taken many people pillion if you are asking, so probably one of the biggest for you personally is Be Relaxed and Confident. If you are relaxed the chances are she'll fell a lot more relaxed too.

Also be clear with her with direction, they are a different spiecies after all ;)

Make sure you are ready before you invite her to get on the bike, even the lightest pillion can through your balance right off if you arent ready.

Probably the best tip I have is get her to hold on to you (arms wrapped around your waist) and not the bike - she'll sit closer to you then, you know exactly how shes feeling, theres less chance of her headbutting you as you break and its better for keeping you both warm... she's also less likely to move about as you corner etc as well.

most of all have fun :)

Few good suggestions there folks. We'll be covering this sort of stuff this eve and I really want it to go well.

Agree a signal so that she can indicate she is happy to speed up and one that shows she is approaching the edge of her comfort zone.

Good idea that.

In terms of carrying pillion before, I've carried a few pillions but most of them were bikers and knew what they were doing.

Anyways, wish us both luck. Hope its the start of something new for us...:beerjug:

if you are serious about getting her interesting in pillioning (or whatever the verb is) a good intercom is an excellent idea - its a damn sight easier that shouting over your sholder and means you can both listen to music etc...

I'm sure that'll start all kinds of debates, but you've got to remember its potentially piss boring on the back of a bike, especially if you are covering any kind of distance, so anything that makes it less so should make it a better experience for them and one they are going to be more willing to repeat.

But remember, if she likes it you'll never be able to go out on your own again

You get out plenty on your own :rob a lot more if ya were married to me :augie :P

I've done more miles than I care to remember as a pillion :blast just give clear instructions as to what she has to do/don't do's, ensure she is happy and comfortable with the pace and youse should be grand :thumb

:aidan

Once on the road, suggest that she looks over your left shoulder approaching a left hand bend, your right shoulder for a right hand bend ... sounds maybe daft but it puts her in the right position ;) and stops her leaning outwards on a bend

She doesn't get off the 'bike until you tap her on the knee

Too many pillions try to get off before the rider has got their feet down and ready ... resultant tumble guaranteed

Good luck ... enjoy :thumb
:beerjug:

That went well:)

I'm laughing at your comment Jockser. That was the first thing I thought of actually!

Like the idea of the tap on the knee before she gets off.

Intercom is a great idea. Next sunday is the day for a longer spin and I'll take it from there:bounce1

the first ride and the lead up to it can make the difference between a long and happy relationship and being dumped rapidly.
take it slow to start, finding out what pleases both of you. little by little build up the pace and as long as you both are happy with the way it's going, take longer more diverting routes to the destination.
sudden unexpected moves can be scary and will put you off your stroke and make your partner tense, so avoid this.
soon you'll work together to achieve the most exhilarating ride ever - you'll both get immense satisfaction and at the conclusion - you'll sit there with a grin, perhaps an after ride cigarette, reliving the best bits in your head.

the above can be applied either to the Bike or the Bedroom.
read it again and think about it; :augie

equally valid in both cases -
get it wrong and you'll be ... riding solo before long. ;)
