Hi

Anyone know what is involved with trying to se up the full Blackberry package - i.e. receiving e-mail, fully synced contact/calendar etc, All I've found out so far is that you require:

Mail hosted on Ms EXchange
BES
a Hosted Exchange Service added to your mobile package
a Crackberry

Is there anything else that is required ?

And does anyone know of a UK based provider that will do the lot ?

Can anyone help ?

cheers
Aaron

You don't need the whole BES set up....you can use BIS instead which makes it much simpler as a private user.

All of the major suppliers do it...I've just switched from Vodafone (with their BIS and Blackberry package) to Orange with theirs...it's all very easy to set up and seamless to use- I use mine with Gmail addresses and all of our Moto Morocco adresses and it's perfect.

I don't bother syncing with the calendar etc on the PC, the blackberry is good enough to use as the only device and I just back it up every week to make sure I have everything secure, and once a week I also use Outlook to download and save all of my Gmail emails in case that all goes tits up one day.

When you're looking for a deal BTW, call the major suppliers and get the best offer you can, then quite brazenly phone the others and tell them what they've got to beat I got a very good deal from Orange which gave me twice the minutes and texts as I was getting on Vodafone for half the price, and even with their best offer, VF couldn't match Orange...and I then got insurance chucked in as well :)

I had a Pearl before but I've now got a Bold 9000- absolutely superb bit of kit, thoroughly recommended :thumb2

:agree

And I know a fraction of wot he does about it.

Got a free raspberry and O2's blackberry internet service, paid £10 pm extra for unlimited email/data, on top of normal phone contract. Got step by step instructions on how to configure gmail to get pushed to the raspberry. Sync contacts and diary by cable, mail wirelessly.

Brilliant, works, easy.

Now just need to save up for a blackberry storm....:beerjug:

thanks guys

I have the company e-mail hosted on fasthosts, so if I get Blackberry Internet Service, from any of the major networks, then we should be able to get push e-mail on the blackberrys ? Or is it just connecting every few minutes to get the mail ?

Can you sync contacts and calendar, using just BIS ? Or is that only available with the full (and very expensive BES setup ) ?

many thanks
Aaron

Use BB DeskTop Software to sync

Aaron,

I sink my Pearl with Outlook contacts and calender, using the Desktop Software supplied with the phone. Works great and is easy to set up.

I am with O2. If I have a problem I go into the O2 shop in Basingstoke. Great service and staff who generally know what they are talking about.

Shame the BB Storm is only going to be available on VodaPhone

Mail hosted on Ms EXchange wrong

it will work with most types of email and all you need is a supported smartfone ,
i currently use a nokia e51 with 3 different email a/c's inc a ms exch a/c on an o2 pack

Push E-mail ?

ok, thanks for that Foolish Fellow.

But just to clarify this...

Is this for PUSH e-mail, ie. not setting the phone to connect to receive mail every few minutes.

And is this for synced over the air for contacts, calendar ?

cheers
Aaron

push mail yes , and works everywhere all over the world, a torture at times.
no over the air synching of canender and contacts only mail

I could be completely wrong, but I think you need some sort of MS exchange/enterprise arrangement to get all services to wirelessly sync. My work bberry syncs everything wirelessly, my own on O2 only mail. Need to connect a wire. Not too much of a problem.
