Just had my 1150 GSA in for 6k service today & was warned against my current setup of Remus Y piece with standard BWM can. Apparently they've had three in with this set up where the hanger bracket on the subframe has cracked. Now I had this setup on my previous 1150 for about a year / 10k miles with no problems but was wondering how many of "us" have had this problem.

Was advised to re-fit the cat or fit a Remus end can - I don't really want to do either, as the cat strangles the thing no end & even tho I like the power gain of the Revolution can, the droning on (baffle in or out) drove me nuts on long journeys. Was also told if it happened it wouldn't be repaired under warranty as it was due to a non standard part.

there's another thread about this with lots of pics, might be worth a search.

it seems bmw deleted the extra fixing bracket that the early 1150s had that fixed can to footrest hanger as well as the subframe bracket.

might be possible to convert or just strengthen the bracket now before it cracks.

don't know why the Y piece makes it more likely to break though

Hi GSade,

I have a 2002 GS and mine broke. As cookie says the older Gs's have a much more robust setup. I welded the bracket back on and strengthened it a bit. So fingeres crossed. I recon the y -piece is not as rigid as the Cat and the STD can is VERY heavy. On the 2002 bike the only mounting is that fragile bracket and the end of the Y piece which is quite rigidly mounted itself. It took 15,000 miles for mine to break tho' it was fitted when there was 6k on the bike.

Here is the thread of woe!

According to the BWM service guy the Remus slightly alters the angle, hence putting continued stress on the bracket that the remus can does not - and/or could be due to the remus can only weighing about half as much as the o/e leaden lump ;)

Thanks to Cookie & Mzokk for their info on this one, yep I know should have done a more thorough search first :o

Cheers
