I have a small crack in my screen. The crack is coming from one of the mounting bolt holes at the front. I haven't noticed it getting bigger, but I suspect it will do. The bike (new in May 2005) has never been removed, bolts have never been removed/touched/overtightened, and it's clear from the lack of marks elsewhere that it has not been used off road.

Has anyone successfully had a cracked screen replaced under warranty, please?

I had mine replaced for the same thing.
It is a 54 plate and was nearly 2 years old when replaced. The dealer did it at the same time as replacing the gearbox and said it was a gesture of goodwill???
Make of this what you may.
Regards

Had mine replaced under warranty on my prevous 04 plate 1200 same problem same place mind you had new mountings fitted too some sort of upgrade to the original ones.

I had the same problem with my screen. Replaced under warranty by Cannon (not where I bought the bike) with no quibbles. Got a nice smoked screen by accident as well.

Mine (2006 model) cracked same way. In fact one large & several very small cracks appeared to radiate away from the hole. Bike was only 6 weeks on the road when I first noticed it.

Was on the way to the dealers one morning last November to have a word about that (& the rear pad wear rate) when a u-turning Vitara jeep brought the GS to a sudden and very final stop. :(

Dealer should replace it under warranty.

Thanks for the replies; sounds like it's not a lost cause. Cannons is my preferred dealer (albeit a fair trek) so I'll pop up and let them have a look.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Carsqhere, sorry to hear about your crash, but I bet it took your mind off the cracked screen!

Have exactly the same problem only 600 miles on the bike. Pointed it out to the dealer and told him if it gets any worse I want it replaced.:aidan

Cracked screen

I imagine that in the UK as in France, the bike arrives in a box and the dealer's mechanics mount the screen, front wheel etc. - the sort of job an apprentice could do....perhaps?

I think thats the problem brian apprentices are let at work to early and then the problems begin. If your paying top dollar for a new bike letting a second year apprentice prep the bike is not really on even under supervision.:thumb

New screen

I ordered my new GS with the Adventure screen so have an unused standard screen available if anyone wants to make me an offer.

My 06 model cracked the screen at 6 months old. Replaced under warranty by my local dealer (who I would just about trust to do something I could do myself). Salesman tried to suggest that I had broken it by carelessly refitting it. Service chief was a little more professional but I can't convince myself to risk their services. (The bike wasn't supplied by them for the same reason).

What a nice man! I'll come back to you on that one if I may. If I can't get a new screen on warranty, I'll check with you again, but please don't wait for me if you can flog it elsewhere (obviously).

Had the same issue over here. An easy fix is to find a sheet of lexan and glue a rectangle of the lexan on the front of the screen with a polyurethane glue (seamgrip type). Clamp and let dry. It transfers the stress to the lexan and then to a larger area. A year later, and no further damage. I can pm you a photo - the first try show some air bubbles, but it had no effect on the result.
BMW dealers locally blames it on "overtightening" the screen bolts... :thumb2
