Went for a ride tody on my 1200 Adventure. Man, did it rain! Anyway when I stopped at some lights I noticed my right hand winglet had cracked rather badly, starting from the hole nearest the tank.

I 'have had it off' in the past and don't think I over tightened it...if I had I would have thought it would have gone there and then not when I was riding about 3 weeks later.

Anyone else had this problem?

I've taken mione off for cleaning and I'm sure you'd be hard pushed to crack one by overtightening it as the fastener appears to be made from cheese :(

Tis a warranty related issue me thinks :augie

never taken mine off and it cracked in the same place, replaced under warranty :thumb2

When I bought mine for my GS the dealer warned me to be careful with the screws as they had cracking problems

Cracking winglets

As mine are fitted on an 'ordinary' GS there are no supports other than large washers below- so they can waggle about just a little & I have had no cracks yet. However I do have a few tiny ones around the screws fixing the screen but not a warranty job I am afraid - just a slight disagreement with a decending car parking barrier! (A tiny hole drilled at the end of a crack will stop it speading, as I am sure everybody knows.)

Thanks for the replies.

I'll pursue a warranty claim when my dealer opens on Tuesday. :mmmm :mmmm

Cheers again.

Mike

it's easy to get the top hat washers in skewy, then they stress the winglet.

one of mine was fitted wrongly from new & i now have a small stress fracture

Thanks lads for your input.

Warranty claim accepted, and the winglet will be replaced when I next call in at the dealers.
