I am replacing the head gasket on my 1100GS. This is the first time that I have done this. I have been following all the steps from videos and from this forum. I am having trouble cracking loose the cam chain bolt.

I have the bike in gear and the rear brake is applied. It just doesn't seem to want to come loose and I feel like if I try too hard I could break something else .

does anyone have any advise?

you should have TDC lock pin fitted!

This could end up messy

I need to have a look to see if I can find the instructions

DO you have an Oilhead Manual ?

I do. I put a pin into the flywheel just above the starter and its says its at TDC through that little hole on the right side of the engine. When I try and break loose the sprocket bolt there is just a little play in the chain before it goes tight. Just feels weird to pull on it as hard as it appears to require to break it loose.

alright, it worked but a piece of the cam chain tensioner guide broke off. I have everything else off and I am ready to pull the cylinder head off but I have one question. Do I have to remove the cam chain tensioner bolt all the way out? I am working of the LEFT cylinder which is the cam chain tensioner that is on top instead of the bottom and VERY hard to reach.

the post above was my own post (I think its the one your are talking about). Do I need to take the cam chain tensioner bolt all the way out before I pull off the cylinder head? I am afraid if I do I will lose the rest of the chain guide before I can get to it.

At the very top of the 1100/1150 section there's a sticky, Oilhead Info and Tips, click on it, you need "Engine", Changing a Cylinderhead gasket.

Are you aware that there are no pictures in the Sticky........

The links that were there when you originally posted it have long since disappeared......:nenau
