Hiya I will be getting my gs1150 on saturday, though it has no crash bars which ones are the best ones to get and where can I get them from.
Cheers

Nice one!

Got a pair of Hepco and Becker on mine. Easy to fit (just DON'T undo all the bolts on the frame at the same time, do it one side at a time).

They seem to be holding up against the winter well, but - touch wood - I've not really tested them yet.

Very happy with mine.:beerjug:

Don't be tempted by BMW GS Adv bars - overpriced and ineffective (DAMHIK). I've used Hepco & Beckers to good effect - they also happen to be about the cheapest option - about £120, I think.

The disadvantages of H&B are:

You'll need to at least loosen them or remove them to remove your rocker covers to do a service (some people say they can manage to do this without loosening the bars, but they are inveterate reptilian liars and should be ignored). You'll definitely need to remove them to change your poly V-belt.

The paint finish (you can get them chromed, black or silver painted) is a bit thin. I've re-painted mine - I'd paint them before I fitted them if I was buying new again...

Mike:)

EDIT - Bought mine from Motobins, who were the cheapest when I bought mine (a couple of years ago).

H&Bs work, I discovered today :D

But the paint or powder coating (if it is) which is quite thick all just cracked away in chunks which surprised me a little. So a little bit of paint repair required.

But the main thing is they did the job.

Just fitted a set of H&B ones on friday. Easy enough except that one of the 12.5mm Aluminium spacers had a hole that was less than the Diameter of the M10 bolt!! I couldn't really stop because I had already fitted one side so I had to drill the spacer:rolleyes: Paint seems thin on them can't see were the £115.00 delivered is in two bits of tube and a few bolts!! Seem well desiged to protect the cylinder heads mind.:)

H&B ones if you don't mind having fuggly great scaffold bars stuck all over your pride and joy........they just look crap !!!!

Adv bars do well in MY experience......any bars can be foiled by a bad drop or an add angle/stricking up rock or something, but I've dropped mine many many times with minimal (and only cosmetic) damage.

Fitted Hepco & Becker bars to mine, remember to jack up the back end, otherwise you will strip the threads if the holes aren`t lined up perfectly,
A bit of brute strength & ignorance was needed though as the fit wasn`t perfect.
Got mine from Motorworks, I think they were about £105.00 for the black ones.
There are fitting instructions somewhere on the Forum, you will need these as the fitting instructions supplied with the bars are in German!

Got H&B bars on mine. Did save the bike when I was helped off on a roundabout by someone who forgot his highway code. The paint has flaked off in chunks!!!......Just hope the insurance hurry up and sort it

Protection bars on the 1150GS

I had the stainless steel standard BMW bars on mine - I thought they looked good and when the 'bike rolled off its stand on an incline ( easy enough I'm afraid) there was no damage; When I traded it for a 1200GS I simply insisted that they again supplied standard BMW bars at no extra cost - which they did. Anyway fit something quickly - both stands are marvellous and easy to use BUT easy on can be easy off ! Good luck Brian

Hi Rod, are you North or Soth Bedfordshire?

I've seen elsewhere on this site some ads for Stanton Head Protectors which look a lot neater than the crash bars. I can't decide which would be the better option- I suspect the answer will be 'Fit Both' But I don't want/can't afford that.
Which would be best?

Having seen the damage to the head covers after a guy had a slow speed off I went for the H & B bars in chrome.

As previously mentioned on the thread print off the english fitting instructions, follow them exactly as I found out the hard way that the 'possible' 4 hours fitting is a distinct possibility!

My set had the small bore centre spacer that required drilling and, having fitted the bars found the front top loops fouled the tank. After then having to remove them and twisted them using a vice they now fit perfectly.

Which bit of Beds?

Hi Ovenpaa

I'm in the south of beds (infact so far south that it may be North West Herts or East Bucks; it all depends if you believe post codes, county boundries on map or road signs, respectively).

Does this imply that you are in the area too?
