whats your opinion of the bmw crash bars that bmw charge 290 quid for?are they any good, has anyone been unlucky enough to test them?i've looked on touratechs website they cost about the same...I'm very interested in crash bars as a 5ft 7 tall [short]man,i'll probably be testing the buggers!

the BMW ones are very nice, the finish is good. On the last GS I had, an 07, I had an aftermarket set, I can't recall the make and whilst they were nice, the finish on these is much more upmarket. Haven't, touch wood tested them yet and the bike is a 15 so don't know about longevity of the finish.

They were tested today on a mostly GSA ride out. They worked perfectly...

OEM crash bars are good, and tested with the bike by BMW with their big budget behind.

A mate of mine had a nasty off on the road caused by aftermarket bars - he leaned over quite some way, the bars caught on the ground and pinged him off. Would not have happened with OEM bars.

Was a mate. He's fine. Classic low speed topple... Albeit from quite a height. Bike was fine. Pride dented etc.

I have a pair of BMW genuine jobs (lowers only) and have tested them twice off road. They did scratch up a bit.. but did not bend, or break, deform or allow any contact with the rocker covers so did a good job. Went down with a wallop on one occasion too.
I also "tested" some a couple of times on the BMW off road course in Wales. I assume those to be BMW.
Another guy literally dropped his GS, down hill, onto the right side crash bar. We then pivoted the bike around on it and picked it up off that... Only scratched and only pride dented, rode off down the hill.
Very nearly tested them again in Membury services Friday; Stopping at the pumps and put my foot down on a diesel spill. Farking slippy I tell you... Still not sure how I:blast did not end up on the deck. Note to self: "look before you actually stop next time":blast

I have got the GSA and the bars have been well tested on a ride down the western BAM road in Russia, no major damage to bike or bars.

Funnily enough mine has just been tested on the GSA LC.

No damage anywhere other than marks to the bar, nothing touched down apart from pannier plastic bit and that's no bother.

Worth their weight in gold.

Replacement part £167 though.

They fall over really well it has to be said.
