Phoned rydales up yesterday asked about crash bars,i was told the best thing to do was to fit the hard plastic thingys plus bmw crash bars.I was quoted £240 with free fitting. and they r charging me to put a givi rack on.should i just get h+b crash bars and and put them plus the rack on myself. The guy said the crash bars dont cover all the engine, and at the next service they would charge me if they had to remove h+b bars.

BMW now has some brilliant alum. cyl. head protectors. I installed them about 3-4 weeks ago. They fit with the BMW bars which I also have installed.

Cheers,

Well, they would say that wouldnt they? I cant see how the H&B bars I fitted on my bike would need to be removed to access anything for service, but even if they did it would take less than 5 minutes. And the same serivice would most likely need removal of the BMW bars too

As for the aluminium or plastic head protectors, my dealer advised me to fit BMW or H&B bars (same dealre flogs Garmin GPS rather than BMW!) saying that the engine castings wree very thin because of the weight reduction campaign and most likely a decent drop without bars would damage the main castings.

I would go for the H&B again - they took maybe half an hour to fit of which 20 mins were working out how to fit. The instructions are useless and half in kraut!

As for the rack... don't let them charge you to fit it, it takes less than 30 mins to fit, and about 15 of that is sussing out the instructions....

really, it's simple, you'd be mad to pay someone to fit it for you!!!

& H&B Bars are great, i had mine fitted (by the bmw dealer before bike collection) and even they were impressed with them!!!

good luck...

I endorse the use of H and B bars they work well when the bike is ahem... rested in its defaul position in the absence of physical support - as it was yesterday in my case on a dirt road....
