Riding up through France at the weekend on my 1200GSA and rode into a blizzard resulting in a spectacular 30 mph off :thedummy Left side crash bar crunched, pannier and ally head protector gouged as well. Luckily no damage to rider and pillion, actually came off 3 times in all. Need to master riding thru 6 inches of snow!

Any ideas if BMW sell just the sections of crash bar or do you have to buy the whole assembly?

Cheers

Sounds like a big one, glad to hear you're ok :thumb

Good job you had all that protection, and panniers look better that way anyway :D

No idea if you can get sections of crash bars I'm afraid. If not I think the Hepco and becker ones are cheaper and offer more protection, I've got some though touch wood I've never tried them!

Rotten luch

Considering that this year there has been a general shortage of snow, particularly in the ski resorts, you were unlucky to find it this weekend. I doubt very much if any dealer would sell a half set but if/when you buy a new set you would obviously inform him and ask him to let you know if anyone is short of the right hand set. (And broadcast your surplus on this site.) Anyway the important thing is that you were not hurt and the rest pales into insignifigance - at least until you get the bill.

Hepco & Becker are no good for the R1200 GSA.
I'm pretty sure that you will be able to buy the damaged section as they have individual part numbers.

See http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/MainDiagrams.asp?VIN=zn99649

Yes you can buy them in sections...just go in to the parts dept and they will show you it on a blown up diagram thingey....

Wunderlicky do snow chains.......:augie

Seriously though, glad everyone was ok...:thumb2

Out of curiosity did the cylinder head protector break off at the studs within the head? I have heard folks saying a small off dings the guard and it breaks the thread off within the head - thus requiring a new head if you want to properly re-install a new cylinder head guard!

PS - sorry to hear that you fell off.............

Skis on bikes

Don't be too enthusiastic; it is only a small alteration to fit 'safety' wheels on those arms and before we know it the Royal society for prevention of something or other will be insisting on them.

Incidentally I do remember that BMW fitted similar struts + wheels on a test model when they were perfecting the ABS sytem.

......are you saying your GS never came with stabiliser wheels as standard?

I can confirm they work as well, was over taking stationary traffic yesterday when dumb women decide to turn right without looking, I hit her front wheel and wing, my L/H crash bar and head protector took all the pressure and resulted in heavy scratches on both, but her front wing had a huge dent :D.
She was very shaken and apologetic and has agreed to pay me directly for damage rather than loose her NCD.
