Take care what bolts you undo.... and don't hit your thumb with the hammer.
Seriously, there are loads of threads on what type of bars people think are best, whether they do or do not or just maybe fit with assorted headers and loads (including pictures) of threads on how to fit them.
I fitted mine 2 years ago (1200gs) and they have paid for themselves several times over. I binned the bike three times on Friday in the snow. The bars took the lot and not a mark on the rest of the bike (well except for the bolt on the end of the handguards)
If you go for these, have a care when fitting the parts together as where the tubes fit together it can be a bit stiff. I used good old fashioned brute force and ended up flaking a bit of paint off the join. This has led to a spot of rust which is a little unsightly but no big deal. It could be avoided with a little more finesse when fitting though.
Having taken the bike off road lots and falling off nearly as many times, the bars are bit scratched and dinked, but the bike is pristine.
Having sent my 1200 up the road whilst wearing a set of H&B bars, I can vouch for their strength and protectiveness......... paid for themselves I'd say.
Also came in useful when sideswiped by an Audi A6 in heavy traffic...... GS 1, Audi door skins nil.
