Looking at the Helmet brings it home just how protective they really are....Hate to think the damage that would be caused without it

Yep I agree, i've recently taken to riding with the chin piece up, i think i'll shut it again now:blast

Speedy recovery to you:comfort

Was the jacket cut off you or torn across the chest like that in the accident?

Cheers everyone

The jacket was worn/ripped around the shoulder but also had to be cut by the paramedics

I've salvaged most farkles that are worth saving, the HIDS don't come on and owing to the mangling of the front end would be a bitch to get off. The oil cooler grill is wrecked and bent so not worth salvage

Yep, glad your ok, the bike can always be replaced for sure. Yes, you do wonder about other bikers, I was coming home the other day and a car in front was doing 25mph, I overtook him and some idiot biker behind, then went past me at the same time I was overtaking. The long and short of it, always expect the unexpected!

Quick Update, the repair bill for the bike (08 GSA with premium pack) is £9100 :eek::eek:

Methinks a write-off is on the cards but still awaiting official verdict from my insurer.

Now should I go Magnesium Matt again or Magma Red this time??...............

Unless you've gap insurance, you'll now have the pleasure of receiving the insurance company's silly offer for your bike. Whatever they offer - tell 'em to poke their first offer. Good luck.

Glad you're OK. Shoulder will heal and you can replace the jacket. Tip: if you don't have helmet and leathers insurance, try your home insurance policy, if it has "all risks" for items used outside the home. Mine paid for replacement suit and gloves earlier this year. Wouldn't pay for the helmet though as they deemed that to be a "motorcycle accessory"...

good thinking!

At the risk of stating the totally bleedin' obvious, also keep records of all losses for the claim against t'other rider. Clothing, taxis, car/bike hire, medications, etc. all adds up. Anything uninsured, including your excess on insurance for your own bike repairs/replacement and your own injuries, loss of use/enjoyment of bike (loss of earnings if self employed), is claimable. This is NOT suggesting you put the boot in - just that it's easy to overlook the extent of hassle and loss this kind of thing can cause. You're legally obliged to mitigate your losses. Check out legal expenses insurance you may have and get some proper advice. :blagblah :type

Most importantly - mend quick, chap. :thumb2

You will be quite suprised what they will repair !
I was out with a few bikers when the lead man left the road flipped over a fence travelled about 30 meters down a bank and landed in a small stream.
When the recovery van got it out and got it on the back of the recovery vehicle he stood it up to get the tie down straps and the bike rolled over and dropped off the back of the flat bed , just missing a little spitfire (car:augie)
We all thought it was wrote off after the first crash but deffo after it fell from the van

It was back on the road a month later!!!!!!
Mind he didnt keep it long after that!..

There does seem to be more bike to bike accidents these days,I try to avoid the power rangers meeting places at weekends, anyway hope ya get over this soon,Ian

The replacement 59 reg GSA arrived today.......let the farkling commence!! :bounce1:bounce1:bounce1

So, Big Nick - did you get a full payout from the other side or did you have to fight them for it?!

Shoulder is still recovering albeit the physio is very pleased with my progress, I've got around 75% flexibility in it but so far so good with it on the bike.

I got a decent payout without too much haggling and after much shopping around actually secured a brand new bike without having to add money to it which I was well chuffed about :D

The police/insurance investigations are still ongoing but from what I've heard I don't think I've owt to worry about re blame

Got a few farkles on the bike now and tried to get a quick photo but the battery on my camera was flat :blast

Just glad to be a GS owning biker again :bounce1:bounce1:bounce1

Good for you. I'm just going through a claim where someone backed into my parked bike and did £1,500 worth of damage. He admitted liability, and there was never any question anyway. There were also loads of witnesses.

However, his insurers are a bunch of twats. I'm just filling in the Small Claims paperwork to sue him for full settlement. That will focus his and his insurers minds!
