Jeesh

I better get myself a torx set.

Don't laugh at me for being as technically minded as a cold cup of coffee :nono But are they expensive for a good set and will I get much use out of them other than checking out these particular bolts?

Cheers :thumb

pinch bolt fever

Thanks you guys, i've had to tighten 2 of mine and one was quite loose. the bike has only done 250mls and so it could be a build problem ?

The best fix is to (blue) Loctite the bolts in, (like all your caliper mounts etc) peace of mind and should not vibrate loose.

The expensive bit will be the Torque Wrench - you'll need one if you want to ensure you have the correct tightness of the bolts...I bought the Halford's own brand torque wrench which came up good in the Ride survey for accuracy, etc. The Torx bits aren't that much - a set from Halfords will be adequate for your needs and cost about 10-15 quid...the wrench is around 50 quid.

You'll be able to check all your bolts and re-tighten properly, if necessary...

Arguments for and against this on the main 'sticky' thread on this subject, but, be aware that the quoted torque values are for a dry bolt, not one lubed by Loctite.

Also, as an aside, last night I took off my back wheel which I had 'blue' Loctited on last time I had it off. Managed to snap a Halfords 'profesional' Torx socket in the process so went back to my trusty Draper Torx drivers with no probs - don't think I'll be using the Halfords stuff again...................

has anyone thought of drilling and lockwiring these bolts? I do various bolts, drains etc on my race bike and wondered if this has been done?

Thanks loads

I just thought i'd check mine on my brand spanking new 2006 that has never been ridden (great white north in canada) and guess what?

one side was extremely looooooooooose! maybe 10 n/m's at most!

applied locite and re-torqued to 23 n/m's and marked for attention with magic marker..

Thanks again!

:rob please excuse this if its a dumb newbie question . but is this problem relevant to
all three models. eg 1100,1150,1200gs's or is it just the 1200 :o

so did the design change slightly between the 1150 and the 1200 because to my untrained eye they looke pretty much the same to me. or am i just digging a bigger hole for myself :D

Just so's I'm absolutely clear, it's the two arrowed bolts, not the other one?

I've never ever touched these but having done 100-odd motorway miles on Saturday, it doesn't fill me with confidence that my brand new bike has a potential fault that could easily end up with a rider fatality. What on earth are BMW thinking here?

Going to Halfords later!

Thanks

J

Checked mine and 3 out of the 4 were on the slack side, all tightened up now, should they not have been lock tighted?
Think this weekend will be spent checking around the whole bike.

I'm pretty sure that Halfords Professional equipment is guaranteed for life, take it back:rob
