Crating my GSA for airfreight?

Morning Chaps,

Some friends of mine have been very kind and are making a crate for my Adventure for my 'adventure' next month.

Does anyone have any ideas about the following please:

a. Best way to crate (screen off, handle bars etc?)
b. What to do with the fuel tank (de-fuelled of course)
c. Strapping down - "the bestest way" as Wurzle would say? I've got some straps from BWM.
d. Padding? Needed?
e. Tyres (ideally I'd like to leave them infalted)?
f. Battery (disconnected?)

Customs also need to have the crate open to see the frame no, inspect it etc. What's the most convenient way of doing this so i can secure it afterwards?

1: Disconnect the battery terminals. Some places check, some don't but you might as well.

2: Take the screen off and tape it to the tank.

3: Drain the tank but leave it in place

4: Leave the tyres as they are but *and here's the trick* Take the front wheel out! This will reduce the height of the crate significantly and so save you £££s.
MAKE SURE YOU CABLE TIE THE FRONT BRAKE LEVER!! If you squeeze this when the wheel is out you will have real problems re-setting the calipers!

Obviously you will have to do this on the base of your crate as you won't be able to move the bike afterwards.

Why don't you go to your local dealer and ask them for the crate that a new 1150GSA was delivered in.

Then knowck down your bike to the extent that the dealer builds a new one up!
