I had a good run out on the byways with Adam on Saturday around Meon Valley just north of Portsmouth and he sent me a copy of the route as a JPEG scanned from his OS map.
I wanted to put the entire route into my garmin to include both the on and off road sections.
I then searched here and couldn't find a way of drawing this route out on Google Earth and converting to mapscource.
I came up with this after a search on Google
"In GE draw a path, name it and click OK. The new path appears in My Places on the left. Right-click on this, choose Save As..., make sure to change the default extension from .kmz to .kml.
Download GPSBabel from gpsbabel.org, install and run the GUI.
Choose Input Format GE, output format Garmin gdb.
Enter full path to input and output file, including the file extensions.
Uncheck Waypoints, check Tracks and click Let's Go.
In Explorer double-click the new .gdb file and you should have a Track0000 in there. Voila!
You can also import these tracks into your GPS map's IMG files using GPSMapedit, but that is a lot more complicated and there is very little documentation on this excellent program, that I use almost daily.
There are some more instructions for this on the forum at smellybiker.com."
It's from a thread on another forum which describes how to do it. So I drew out a small section on GE of the beginning of the route and followed the above instructions. Once I "saved as" to a file it came up like this:-
So far it worked fine until I tried downloading the track onto my Garmin (2610).
When I go to find it on the Garmin I can only see an option for opening ROUTES not TRACKS which is what it converted to mapscource as.
So for a Garmin numpty like me, how can I get this to open up on my 2610 so I can use it to follow that particular route next time?
Thanks in advance
