Creative Zen MP3 player fried??

OK, nothing to do with bikes or GS's but I need a 2nd opinion.

There I am with me lovely 20gb MP3 player, complete with about 280 albums. I tried an adapter through the car cassette player and I also plugged in the charger. Yep, it was switched to 12v. The player is now dead as a dodo.

Do you reckon I have goosed the player?

Is there any way back, other than going and buying another one?

Im wondering if the player has an internal 'fuse' to safeguard this sort of thing happening when stupid bald middle aged men start playing with gadgets.

Any info much appreciated, preferably positive.

have you tried resetting it?
Paperclip or similar inserted into the little hole at the bottom.
Mine freezes occasionally - that always does the trick.

Yes mate, tied the old paperclip in the slot job alas to no avail. Its just dead.

Trouble is I dont know enough about electronics. I have the charger here (in fact its a DC Converter) It has a selection of outputs in stages from 1.5v up to 12v.

I think I should have put it on low just in case.

Of course theres a chance it should have been on 12v, and the player had already given up the ghost. That would be better for me as its less than 12 months old.

Can any electrical heads confirm??

Zen's die quite often...take it back to the shop and tell them it just stopped

you fried it

it was likely 5V it needed

you could plead ignorance and send it back under guarantee... you best bet

and don't say you pluged it into anything other than your mains charger for it

Mine appeared to die for no reason recently - Zen micro 6GB. I thought it had packed up but the creative website suggested removing the battery for 2 mins. Dunno why i didn't do that initially, but followed the instruction and it came back on fine.

Erm.....surely you have a synchronised copy on your PC???

Plug it in and dump them all on again.

The newer versions of the Zen Software are pretty good for synching stuff.....plug the device in, click one buttn and it does it automatically.

It's fast as well......Mine dumps all 32 gig of my music on the Zen in about 10 minutes

Where did you buy it? I have taken/sent stuff back to Comet, Amazon, Dixons, etc. under guarantee and they don't even question what happened. Just play dumb and say it packed up. The shop assistant won't care as long as you have the receipt and their paperwork is in order.

I bought it off Amazon, and I have the original box, instructions and receipt. Ill see how it goes.

As you say, Ill plead ignorance.
