Credit cards at French petrol stations (thread now closed)

This opinion seems to be at odds with the op's original question.
He happened to come across two cards that didn't work.

I have two Caxton cards that never work in Colruyt supermarket petrol stations (DATS). They work pretty much everywhere else and all my other cards work at Colruyt.

Luck of the draw, most cards wotk in most petrol stations.

No. None of my cards have ever worked in any automated pump anywhere in France, ever. But they all work anywhere else in France or indeed anywhere else in the world I've been lucky enough to visit.

I blame the Muslims. And immigrants. And anyone who's not British. And anyone who's not English. And the French. And any other European country. And the EEC. And the Euro. ;)

My latest solution to unattended pumps randomly not accepting my cards in France is a 41 litre tank. I will just need to remember to fill it before a Sunday or public holiday :)

The revolut card looks attractive but at this stage the reviews on the Apple app don't look promising. It will be interesting to see how users on here get on with it.

Luck oif the draw, I guess. With the exception of my Caxton cards at DATS and a few others, all mine work at all manned or unmanned stations.

Obviously.

I had to ring Revolut today because the App will not open on my iPhone 4, a known issue they say & they are working on a fix for the next update. Not confidence inspiring.

Not had a card refused for decades. For fuel or peage (in the car). Or for any other form of card based financial transaction in France.
This was with regular debit or credit cards. I've never had a fraud problem, but my partner has, but that was here in the UK, brand new card from a large world wide bank, used once only.
The persons walking up and down Nevsky Prospekt in St Petersburg, withdrawing at every atm and buying expensive stuff at every posh shop must have done well for themselves.

More and more rural supermarkets are automatic only - which is better than the alternative of no rural fuel. With was definitely happening until the automated ones became popular.
Of course, for motorway munchers and city hotelee's it matters not.

Enough, already.

Take lots of cards

Take lots of cash

Don't go to France

Don't go out on Sundays

Go with a friend

Steal petrol

Stay in the UK

Carry extra fuel

Carry a turnip

Never go overdrawn

Use motorways

Go in the car

Go as a passenger

Fly
