My wife and I live in Normandy and have been here since 2002.

I am thinking of buying a bike after years without one but the prices in France are 'stupid' so I'll probably have to buy in UK and then register it here.

My last bike was a Suzuki GSX 1100 F but recently I have been looking at the R1200GS and found this site very informative.

Whilst working my way through various articles I came across your excellent report and photographs.(more than likely it was the title caught my eye 'Credit Crunch Touring') , I could not believe it when I recognised members of your family on the photo. I contacted one of them and sent her the 'link' she told me that she had just returned (couple of weeks ago now!) after having a lovely time. She mentioned how impressed she was with your bike.

If you ever fancy visiting Normandy at some future date you will be welcome here. We are about 45 minutes from Cherbourg and 55 minutes from Caen. Ideally placed if you wanted to visit the Landing Beaches etc., etc.

Is this a sign that I am destined to buy a GS?

Hi Piaf, yea my Mum emailed me as soon as Di told her. Small world! :thumb2

A stop off in France is always welcomed & I may take you up on your invitation in the future. I understand you knew my uncle, Paul.

I have no plans to sell my beautiful GS yet but if I do I'll let you know.

Nice to hear from you, :beerjug:

Thank you for quick reply.......I worked with Paul (wonderful person) for many years and ran marathons with him.

Di has all our details if you need to get in contact and as I said before you would be most welcome.

I must get on with my search for a bike, I think.

Hi Piaf, I've changed my username since I posted this thread as 'The Doctor'.
I'm off to The Alps this Summer if you have a bike now & fancy meeting up.
Calais - Nancy - Grainau - Como.
Get in touch with Di if you're interested & I'll pass on the details.

Phil. :thumb2

Hi Phil I did buy a new bike about 2 months ago when I was visiting UK, would it be 'sacrelege' to mention on here that it is a Bonneville America ?

I'll look at your proposed route and times etc., and I maybe able to catch up with you on your homeward journey. I'll get back to you soon.

Good luck,

Steve

Very poor video due to me having no option but using my old PC.
My new PC won't recognise the video camera.
