To me then it seems like you are saying graphic pictures of something that has happened has more of an impact than someone writing about their experience preventig something like that happening.....
Personally, after reading the first post i was imagining what the results would have looked like had he not been wearing the protection....

I doubt many would think that crashing isn't going to hurt.
I suspect the problem lies in the fact that many think it won't happen to them.

I've had a few offs in my time and some of them were when wearing no protective gear at all other than a helmet and a pair of Dr. Martens and I walked (or hobbled) away pretty much unscathed. I remember one instance of being a pillion when we came off and I must have slid about 20' in a press-up position with no gloves on. Not so much as a graze to my bare hands or a scuff to my freshly polished Docs. How the feck that happened is something I still wonder about over 20 years later. :eek :nenau
Maybe I've used up all my lives/luck in my youth, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. I still recall quite vividly some of the risks I took and the near misses I had - the times where only 1" difference in my position would have meant my fatality, or if there had been something coming the other way...
I've led something of a charmed life in terms of motorcycling and now I have a family to support I tend to mitigate the risks I take by wearing better gear for 99% of my riding. And not taking so many ridiculous chances.
Each to their own I suppose. Wear what you like but if I'm the first arrival at a crash scene, don't be surprised if I throw up and am of no help whatsoever.

I'm convinced it won't happen to me but when I go out on the bike I wear bike clothing with armour. No brainer.
 
Remember, though, that although the guy in the original article knew that tyres and rain and metal strips are not a happy combination he still apparently wasn't paying enough attention to stay away from the expansion joint.

There's another item of safety equipment that lies behind the eyes and between the ears. Was it working in this case?

I'll do a short trip in just shorts and teeshirt myself on a fine day but wouldn't do it in the wet!
 
Here's a 'critical fact' for you...I've yet to buy a motorcycle at a dealers without the salesman 'offering' to do do me a 'good deal' on bike kit.

I am not the parent of any other rider and so cannot inflict my view on anyone else. Equally, we are all grown ups (in the eyes of the law at least) and therefore make our own decisions - you pays your money and takes your choice.

As for me....it is full kit every time. I enjoy my life and those in it too much to do otherwise.

critical facts about riding

Most veiws have been made about this artical of what clothing to wear or not to in some peoples cases, yes people come off their bikes and dont suffer
any or little injury,their lucky . This how ever was a typical ride out on a hot day bloke riding sensible around 70mph on the motorway only thing is, he had used that serum you apply before wearing jeans T-shirt etc youve seen it all before ,your usual numbty car driver changes lanes catches him unaware dabs the brakes flicks him over the top he slides down the road . No broken bones no internal injuries . outcome DEAD. Why . paramedics couldnt save his life because hed skinned himself when he slid up the road so the out come was he died of DEHYDRATION . Its all food for thought.:rob
 
The only thing to note when choosing what to wear on the motorcycle is make sure that even in times of difficulty .. you look cool :cool

The rest is just all bollox

a £99 pound helmet preforms just as well and sometimes better than a £400 one
