Cross section of a tyre

Where, in the description of a tyre, is there any information regarding the cross section roundness of a tyre?

I've just worn out a set of Tourance Next tyres.
My OCD is kept in check as I can get to the edge of the tyre which means no chicken strips.
After reading the various tyre related posts here, I decided to change to a set of PR4 Trails.
Having bedded them I've started to ride my normally twisty route as I would have on the old Tourance's.

Cue OCD alert...

Where have those chicken strips come from..?
I'm still cornering as I would have but there is a good 10mm of tyre left till the edge of the profile..!!

So my question is are there different profile cross sections between different types and where do you find this out...?
Of course, I could just be bimbling around like Miss Daisey....
 
I had the opposite effect moving to PR4's. The latter is the only tyre I've had the confidence to use all the tyre i.e no chicken strips. All the others, Battlewings, Trail Attacks and PR3's had 5-10mm left on them.
 
The Aspect Ratio gives you a food indication of the cross sectional curve of a tyre.

Why are you so worried about having 'chicken strips' on your tyres, are you really that worried about what others will think of you? [1]

Not worried about what others think. Just quite surprised by how much there was left. Especially as it felt as though the amount of lean felt the same.

Perhaps the final part of the PR4 is steeper / more rounded than the Tourance - which is why for me I haven't got to the far edge of the PR4.
 
Getting to the edge of a tyre on a GS LC is heroic

I think it took some tester and ex racer to do it.

That could have been Anakee 3s only but I never managed it and trust me i tried.

I believe there was a thread about it once

No doubt some riding god will post a picture of their rear tyre, scrubbed right to the edge !

A riding god you may be but my dear chap that is not a GS LC nor is it a PR4 or indeed a Michelin of any description !

Yes but's that only a piddling 150 section tyre on a proper bike and so easy to do :augie
 
It's not difficult on a KTM ...... :D
 
I was surprised to still see chicken strips on my bike with Anakee 3's, even after grounding the pegs.:blast
 
I am not a riding God or an expert but I believe the chicken strips have as much to do with the front profile as the rear. It's all about how far the bike has to lean to get round a given radius and that is to some extent dictated by where the front is pointing which is in turn dictated by the profile of the front tyre. That's my understanding in any case for what it's worth.
 
I have not tried the PR4 yet, but of the 3 OEM tire models, the Tourance Next has the best profile match between front and rear. Its not difficult to edge both and rear without riding like a hero (you don't have to drag hard parts to do it). The Conti and Anakee front tires still showed some untouched rubber after the back tires were edge to edge. Anyone who has managed to edge one of those front tires is braver than I :bow

That's what I was thinking - hence the question of is there any info within the tyre description which indicates the difference in profile...?
