Crossing over to Calais the day / afternoon / evening before…. And a bit about security

This confused me, didn't realize my post was made into a thread!

Thanks all. Slight change in plans, decided to change the game plan around a little. I had originally booked the Saint Omer but not leaving the Saturday morning so staying the first night elsewhere, thanks for all the very useful comments! :)

Excited (and a little bit nervous :D)

That’s a good way to be.

Enjoy your holiday and let us know how you get on, please.
I'd like to do a trip report when I'm back :) I'll also try to record some mof the trip on my helmet cam and share a few stills.

Even though I’m only 2:30 from the Chunnel, I’ve taken to riding down the evening before an early morning shuttle, and staying UK side. I can recommend The Windmill at Hollingbourne. Excellent accommodation, good pub and - more importantly - the car park is out of sight around the back.

On the way back, we invariably stay in Montreuil sur Mer. A good hour’s back road riding from the Chunnel. Lots of good places to stay, and we’ve been given garage space, or even allowed to drive into courtyards and park right outside our rooms. Probably best to avoid leaving bikes in the main town car park, not because of security but because the bin lorries don’t give a sh1t and it’s scary watching them manoeuvre between tightly packed vehicles. Froggy’s Tavern is the place to eat.
