Hello all

EDITED FOR CLARITY

Please see pic below:

Bought a crud catcher from Rugged Roads, arrived today (Great service form them!!!)

Usually, I'm very methodical in my approach, but I don't believe I can fit it whilst the engine cross bar remains in place.

Question: How much strength or integrity with the engine bars will I potentially lose if I removed THE CROSS BAR PEICE ONLY from it completely? Would you do it?

All advice welcome

And any piss taking :D

Are you suggesting \ considering sacrificing the engine bars for a crud catcher ???

No definitely not, it's a question relating to the cross bar at the front where the catcher may be fitted.

I'm trying to gauge strength loss if any if I removed that piece

I wouldn't choose, the bars will remain regardless

Thanks warmshed

Thought that would be the case

My bolts are too short, as are the spacers to be fitted with the cross bar in place, I will tinker over the weekend possibly longer bolts/spacers

H

Not all the GS bikes have a crashbar so it is difficult forthe manufacturer to make one fits all fixings. Try to get some stainless steel spacers or lacquer if you use alloy as they will corrode quickly

I am so glad that you have raised the issue hutchy, likewise I also came across the same problem, but having slurped a large g&t first, I thought best to save the job for another day, so I await with interest if you or anyone else comes up with a solution.

Bob, another patron of the site potentially has the same issue, he bought the same one as me from Rugged Roads over the weekend

He is going to message them to see what they suggest, I'm sure they have come across this before

Cannot see it fitting unless I get longer spacers and bolts, will need to measure the exact size required and determine if they can be sourced,

Okay mate, I can't deny I was a little disappointed, do your best, cheers time for another slurp.

I did the same but having a day off today I just chopped the top inch or so off so that it fits under the bar:thumb yeeehaaaa!!!!

I have a few ideas

Diff spacers, bolts longer or indeed shorter

I have seen on cut in half almost, but would defeat the purpose

I just need to work it out

Thanks for the tip, if you get a chance RC could you please post a picky of how it's fitted?

Well' got it fitted this evening took an hour or so

Not too difficult, details below, but should we really have to do this?

Please note, the measurement below are my measurements check and recheck yours to make sure they are correct for your machine (disclaimer) ;)

1. Remove cross bar
2. Remove the four bolts that are being replaced by the crud kit
3. Cut the top spacers to 28mm
4. Cut the bottom spacer to 25mm
5. Fit CC and torque the bolts to correct torque
6. Refit cross bar
7. Run it up to op temp

Job done
