Crud Catchers

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ - guys - just a wee thought - if you fit any of these non approved bmw accessories not to mention having no TUV rating - would this have any effect on your very expensive BMW motorcycle two year warranty - in particular would the crud catcher inhibit the cooling of air around your very nicely visually appointed belt cover - having attended many BMW rallys over the years it is evident that BMW do not approve afterfit products outwith the official BMW accessory range - just a thought
 
Only if the fitted accessory could be proved beyond reasonable doubt to have contributed to the failure that you are claiming on the warranty for.

Of all the faults that the GS has, I am not aware of cooling issues.
 
I would have thought they would thank you for fitting one - saves warranty claims on the front cover corrosion. My engine cover still looks like new and I can see on the crud catcher where the road debris would have hit it had I not had one.:)

Don't fret now.
My local Motorrad dealer recommends the CrudCatcher to purchasers of all there new and used GS's.
Indeed almost every GS i've seen in the showroom, awaiting collection by there new owners, have had them fitted.

I believe Mark has a good working relationship with Park Lane BMW in London, and by the sound of it a similar relationship with the Bristol BMW dealer(?)

I think some BMW dealers recommend certain after market products and companies...my first dealer rated anything Wunderlich, Touratech is placed in many a showroom, and when I was in Glasgow their dealer had a thorough display of locally produced Alder products.

I think the guidelines would be determined by quality.

I wouldn't doubt the quality of Mark's products....I'd guess if he was to replicate a few Touratech and Wunderlich products he would far far exceed their products.

I'm not sure why you seem to have taken objection to either Mark, or his products?.....I don't know the fella...but can only praise him for every aspect of my purchases...from the communication, commitment, and quality of his products, and his attitude to them.

I gather he's not adverse to input into his products, or suggestions for improvements and suggestions, as the overall product and customer satisfaction means a lot to him....and I think he ought to be applauded for that.

However I think a vendeta is well out of order.
 
Benefit of doubt on intentions

I would like to think that the opinion expressed at the beginning of this thread is in the spirit of the forum and for the benefit and discussion of us all however I and other people would be forgiven for thinking otherwise - if the opinion is of good intent then I apologise sincerely for thinking otherwise. If it is meant otherwise then that is disappointing.

Moving forward, and giving the benefit of any doubt, I do have an input on this opinion and I think that a good point has been made - I recently heard of an insurance claim which was argued over because the poor biker had made his bike non standard with stickers! It could have been a rumour but I would not be surprised so doing anything non standard HAS to be considered by all and I would strongly support that.

Onto the crud catcher - a fellow tosser expressed an opinion regarding overheating - it didn`t seem to be a problem and here is an image of the post for all to see and consider.

Regarding the issue of claims, I do agree with all the comments and, IMHO BMW Park Lane & BMW Bristol are not going to fit parts to their new bikes which would endanger the use of the bike - it`s my belief that they fit the parts because they actually do some good. Nonetheless, with my parts or anyone elses we should alll give it strong consdieration. After having my bike lowered I am realising that things should always be thought out. From a crud catcher to major surgery.

A thought. If that needed cooling then wouldn't it have fins?

Another thought. Would Touratech/Nippy N/the Vendors section still be going if they could only be fitted to out of warranty machines?

Final thought. I have upwards of £2500 of aftermarket non-BMW goodies on my bike and an extended warranty...which has paid up no less than 5 times with all that stuff fitted. Actually its £2590 cos I just bought some Fastaways on the For Sale section...love your work by the way Mark:clap.

And of course you haven't subscribed.....do the right thing, become a Tosser

What a load of tosh:rolleyes:

I've always used a homemade alloy bash plate extender which is tougher than those being sold.
50deg C riding in Turkmenistan didn't cause any issues:nenau

Ride without one beyond the M25 and run the risk of this:)

I have a home made on on my RT, a fair bit bigger than an MH crud catcher and no cooling problems.

Bear in mind that the bike has an oil cooler thermostat so whilst the sump must be less cooled with the crud catcher in place, in practice the thermostat just opens a bit more and restores the equilibrium.

I'd say you're being generous, Mark...Overheating? Ballochs. I have one of your excellent crud catchers fitted and have done thousand of miles in 35-40 deg temperatures. There's no problem....anyone suggesting there is should provide some evidence.
 
Crud catcher + oil cooler guard ordered.

I see the Crud Catcher being immensely useful having suffered v bad corrosion in this area on previous 1200GS's.

I fail to see how it can affect engine cooling.

I've had a Crud Catcher on my GSA from about 2000 miles and now at 27000 miles the front cover is like new. I don't know why BMW don't fit them as standard? :thumb2

Yeah, me too - seems an obvious one really but I guess they have their reasons.

With that said, there are a plethora (where did I get that one from?) of aftermarket items which only enhance a great bike anyway.

+1:thumb2 - I have a MH crud catcher...go anywhere other than smooth tarmac and just listen to the noise of crap hitting the thing....top quality as well....and as with anyone else I know who has one fitted...no overheating...not even in Turkey at 40C heat.
