Custom bottom yoke for WP48 forks

Ok, thank you.

Can you have a talk with BMW Atlanta about this subject ?

For example, if someone buy a set of new fork KTM 950SE, does he has to change oil or springs etc first ?

Chaps...........just to offer a good resource.........

When I converted my Africa Twin to WP48 USDs I needed to revalve and uprate the springs to suit the bike and me (champion pie eater :D )

I used Jeff at Slavens Racing - he's a bit of a suspension tuning guru and after letting him know which forks I was using, the wet weight of the bike, my weight, and the type of riding I would be doing - he had a set of springs custom made - shipped to the UK - all in for just over $100.

OEM KTM upgrade springs didn't offer the spring weight I needed, hence I used Jeff. At this price it was a no brainer for me.:thumb2

look now stop it will ya ...do you know how much trouble i have with him when peeps keep spuffing their pants over his loverly steed:blast:augie:D:D:D:D:D

to reiterate what stormforce8 said jeff know his onions and will sort those spring rates for you:beerjug:

About the same price as new BM forks then.

And we all know how long they last :rolleyes:

I think also that the solution from Specialthing.it is not so bad for the price.

It's 2.800€ but they give you :

- a 320mm brake disk ;
- 2 fork 50mm Marzocchi ;
- 2 clamps (upper & lower) ;
- 2 supports for the handlebar (85mm or 100mm)

So, there are 3 solutions now :

- Kit Andreani from Ohlins to be put into the existing tubes 45mm ;
- Kit Atlanta & KTM material 48mm ;
- Kit MST with Marzocchi material 50 mm.

Not easy to choose the best :confused:

I've been reading through http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=15059777&postcount=1 and it appears that 950 SE forks rather than forks off the KTM singles might be best.

Although slightly longer, they have a greater overlap between upper and lower legs which should give greater strength with the HPs relaxed rake. (Did BMW set it like that so the steering wasn't too steep when supermoto wheel attached?)

So, the hunt starts for some SE forks :D

The main drawback with the SE forks is you will have to have 25+mm sticking out above the top triple clamp ( Looks a bit naff ! )
Due to the fact that the stem on the Ktm is longer on the triple clamp than the Bm
You will not have this problem with the forks off the singles but you will need a revalve and springs
When the Se forks are plug and play

Cheers Garry spot on :thumb

The other thing is SE forks only have 250 mm travel standard (my be able to mod but it makes the problem of forks sticking out above the top more)

But as Garry says SE forks are Plug and play and would have a bigger over lap between upper & low fork legs

I was planning to use SE forks but have now gone with WP MX forks, I think there fit the bike better and more travel there beening revalved and new springs ( MX or EXC forks are easy to pick up second hand then have them revalved and new springs)

Will let you know how it works out when fitted

This is the other reason I went with the MX closed cartidge forks with 315mm travel

Guys its a no brainer,
Now all you need is some 48m forks and stiffer springs I have the MX closed cartidge forks with 315mm travel and stiffer spring rate, works like a charm for of road distance travelling and sand. perhaps shorter forks are more appropriate if you are tar biased.

But the up shot is for me once I'm set up for fitting WP forks there will be lots of options :thumb

not clear

gents

I have been following this thread and the one on Advrider. regarding HP2 forks upgrade.

However I am not clear if/why there is benefit fiting new forks rather than going for a Dr Shox upgrade.

the Dr shox option is the cheapest option and you end up with a set of forks that have all new internals..

---

Also, if we had to fit new forks, wouldn't it be a better option to replace the stock forks for a set Marzochi 45mm gold series (found a set on ebay for GBP300 but wasn't fast enough) which should be similar to the stock but a lot higher quality..

your thoughts !?

I can't speak for others experience, but for me I get wear on the "externals" (whether this is to the stantions or the legs :nenau), so I can't see how fitting new internals will help (although, again I have heard others where this has cured problems).

I've had 4 pairs wear, and replacing just the bushes doesn't cure the looseness. I can't really see exactly where the wear is (other than the coating rubbing off), and there's never been any oil loss through the seals but my bike now rides like it's got a flat front tyre :(

I just hope WP48s are the way to go!

I started with a set of Dr Shox's upgraded forks and wasn't happy at all. Maybe i was unlucky but i suffered from serious sticktion. The WP 315mm MX closed cartridge forks and Ohlins rear feel like a magic carpet out there.

They also saved my backside when riding in deepest darkest Namibia coming into a dry river bed lined with conctrete with a 2m deep 3m wide wash away infront of it at around 100k's an hour, with a little input from me the bike flew over the hole all i had to do was wash my underpants afterwards:bounce1
