Custom Earplugs

My first custom plugs didn't fit too well.

The second set were made by Ultimate (as monitors) from a set of impressions made by an audiologist. I told her that I'd had a problem with the first set and due to the odd shape of my ear canal could she make them as long as she deemed appropriate. What a result, in fact so good that I've had a second pair made from the same impressions as reserves.

The 1150 doesn't go fast enough to generate more noise than the plugs can cope with and I can still listen to the MP3 player at a low volume setting, or automatically answer phone calls.

I have a set of custom earplugs from Green Leopard and a set of in ear monitors for my Ipod etc again from Green Leopard. They were done by Fil Schianni who sometimes frequents this Board who is Green Leopards East Anglian agent.

I have found both sets to be excellent. They are comfortable, block out noise better than the foam plugs, don't shift in your ear and allow the ipod/gps to be used at comfortable non distorting type levels.

Fil came to my office to do the impressions.

I can't remember how much they cost but it wasn't too bad.

I have been using them for 18m and am very happy.

The only downside that I can see is that if you do lose them they cost a lot to replace.

I got a diy set which are produced and marketed in Dunfermline, Scotland for £15 a set. Uses the same 2 pack putty stuff as used by ultimate etc. (as near as I can make out) they are a bit fiddly to do but despite aledgedly having enough for only one set, I made two sets easily. More comfortable than foam (which make my head ache) and washable. They are a bit of a pain to fit and they aren't quite as quiet as foam ones (but good enough with a tall screen) but a good cheap alternative to ultimate etc.
