I've just acquired another screen (thanks Rhisiart... :thumb ) with a view to cutting it down to make a small screen / instrument cowl for summer use. I know that some folks here have done this already so I'm looking for advice on what to do and how to do it.

I've got a dremel and access to oxy-acetyline gear to melt the edges if necessary. Any advice and pics much appreciated.

I cut one down on my 1150.

I covered the area I was cutting with masking tape, marked the cut and then used a jigsaw with a scrolling blade (like the top one in the picture below). The tape stopped the foot of the saw scratching the screen

After I'd made the cut I used very fine wet & dry glass paper to smooth it. I tried using a Dremel but the cut wasn't as acurate.

Thanks for that Kev.... :thumb I probably wouldn't have thought about using the jigsaw. I think I've got one of those blades from the last time I cut a hole in a worktop.

OK, so I'll tape it up with masking tape, mark out where I want to cut and attack it with the jigsaw. Then finish the edges with the dremel and maybe even a welding torch. If that doesn't produce a good finish I'll bung some screen edge trim on it.

Now I just need to decide on how high / low I want it......

Schtum, I did it on mine (Thread "Lower Screen" or something). Just go for it really :) Be careful not to slip with the Dremel. It's easier to be careful than to buff out the scratches hehe
I did mine "organically", i.e I cut a bit and then a bit more till I was happy. I then sanded the edges. I didn't bother with the finish that much, but it was good enough for me.

And, of course, you can always cut a bit more, rather than adding a bit more to it... :)

Oh, and we want pics of the results :D
