Im told there is a thread about shortening a GSA mainstand for a lowered bike but i cant find it. Anyone care to help ? cheers, Del

While it is certainly possible, it is also very likely a non-GSA stand will be a much simpler option for a lowered GSA.
If you insist on shortening the GSA stand make sure you do not lower the stand the same amount you lowered the bike, or it will be two low. A 1" lower bike will need about 1/2" shortened stand.

Apparently a GS stand is too short thats why ive chosen GSA one to modify. Would just need some measurements before cutting. If anyone has done it. The alternative is just to buy a rear paddock stand.

Cutting your existing one may be extreme.
Maybe someone will lend you a std GS one to see what the impact is.
Or look on ebay, subject to 1200 model it's ratty but theres one with no bids currently at £15.00, maybe worth a punt?

When you say apparently, does this mean you have not tried? The difference between a GSA and a GS is not that much in height. Even if a hair short you can add nylon blocks to the bottom for an extra bit of lift.

By how much have you lowered the bike.
I lowered a GSA by 50mm and it needed the lowered GS stand to work properly. Firstly I tried the normal GS main stand and it was almost impossible.

Havent lowered it yet but was thinking Revs for some Wilbers and drop 50mm. I have a GSA stand spare that I could cut down. If its not going to work properly I will buy a rear paddock stand.

Lowering it 2" means you will need and approximate 1" lower stand. I suggest you get the shocks on it, then cut off 25mm, but do not add the feet back on yet. Try putting the stand down and then just keep trimming 5mm at a time until you can get it down with some small effort. Use a piece of rubber or cutting board under it. Once you get it right, weld the feet back on.
The reason I say this is that it is no where near a one for one. Also, your new shocks will settle a bit, so you do not want it really hard to get on the stand right off the bat, as it will get harder as the shocks settle.

Bear in mind a 50 mm drop will dramatically affect ground clearance. Put a 1" plank under the bike and then two 1" planks to check for leg reach before you commit.
I'm 32" inside leg.
I cannot get both feet flat, though both balls of feet are firmly down. However one on the peg (usually left foot) allows me to comfortably flat-foot on the right. The two wheels & one leg tripod is more stable than two legs flapping about so don't assume both feet flat is the automatically a better option.
Have I dropped the bike due to poor leg reach. Yes. But I'd have dropped my old Yammie Diversion 900 in the same situations and that allowed feet flat either side.
The advantage I never try to catch it when it goes too far. With more than 1/4 ton of bike it's almost always a futile effort risking at least torn muscles and a broken leg at worst.
Paint is cheap and rubber pads glued to crash bars etc will protect paint until you get the necessary confidence.

I had mine lowered 50mm by Revs Racing on Wilbers Shocks.
The lowered GS stand and side stand work perfectly

My inside leg is only 29in so I have a low sergeant seat on it and run the suspension on soft and that is liw enough for me to almost tippy toe with both feet but not quite. Everything is fine while bike is moving just means I have to be very observant before I stop anywhere. A wee slide sideways with my arse and its ok. Still think I will get Revs to do the job but its a hell of a long way from Moray lol

Sounds like my bike feels in off road mode. :-o
You may find that a 1* drop is all you need. Check it out with 1" thick planks on the floor before you plunge in .
If you parcel post your shocks to Revs they can do the WESA mods and post them back. Just needs a local mech to swap the parts out/in.
