Can anyone help?
I have a problem with my R1100S, "yes I can hear you saying, the problem is, it's not a GS".
But seriously.
I can be riding at 70/80 and when I ease off the gas, it dies as if the ignition has been cut.
When you come back on the gas, it comes back like a switch being turned on.
I took it to my dealer some months ago with the same problem & they put it on their diagnostic machine.
It showed a potential potentiometer problem.
They replaced the pot, but the problem remained.
Having given up, they put the bike back together & the problem was gone, until now.

Shows all the signs of a potentiometer fault. If they have replaced the pot then it may be in the wiring, bad/loose connection somewhere. Not fun to find. BTW BMW wiring is cack.

Have a look at the side stand switch, pain in the arse things they are. If not that, have a look for corrosion on the left hand throttle body electrial conection. Just disconect it, and have a look at the two pins inside. Give it a squirt of WD40 anyway, it won't hurt it. If it's neither of those two things, then I'd go and get a grown up.Good hunting.
ps. let me know if you find out what it is. cheers

Thank you Panzer & Vern, I will look at those things later.

Vern, I wonder if you could supply a set off those S/steel fixings for my bike?
I spoke to Mike o & he said they may not be the same as on the GS, but I would be happy to take a set with extras.
Mike also said that he wanted to settle up with you on the postage thing, so I could include that in my payment.

Tools,

Sounds like it could be hall sensors!

Just had this problem.

Are running as normal, back off a bit (when Changin gear?) revs plummet engine cuts out(ish), gun the engine, it's running again.

Hall sensors come on a plate and live at the end of the crank, normally called points - one manages tickover, the other on the run - they don't take long to replace (two screws and a plug), and don't cost a mint.

I am reliably informed that it is not an uncommon problem with any R engine, but not regular either.

But

Call your nearest dealer and mention HALL SENSORS - DO IT NOW. As once it's popped, it'll stay stopped.

Good Luck

Jamie

Jamie,
That sounds like the same simptom to me.
OK I'll tell my dealer and see what they can do.
