I'm just in the process of ordering up parts to strip the heads and barrels on my 1978 80/7. I have a spare engine with one side stripped and there seams to be no groove for an O ring on the barrel base and there was certainly no barrel base gasket so the question is what seals the barrels to the crank case, do I need O rings?
Also should I replace the external circlips on both ends of the gudgeon pins even though I will only remove one to release them from the pistons?

Thanks bubbles.

I personally would replace the circlips. I've always found them to be weaker and less springy after a couple of uses.
As for the gasket/o-ring, have you had a look at a parts microfiche for the bike?
If not, call Motorworks and ask them - they know exactly what the bike needs. :)

Good luck!
