I'm just about to finally assembled the engine on the 76 R90s and over my two years of ownership I have managed to acquire to gasket sets. Each set a different cylinder base gasket one is thin aluminium the other is a composite. Which one should I use, is anyone better than the other?
Should I also use a smear of silicone in this area

Thanks in advance Byron

PS as you can see the kitchen table is in use this weekend for the assembly has the wife is away

No silicone - Three Bond or similar seems to be the choice.
I think one of these may be a compression plate which was fitted if owners complained of pinking with the best fuel available to them, the other is the gasket.
If there wasn't a compression plate fitted when you stripped the bike then I feel it is unlikely you need one, but someone who has actually rebuilt a R90 S might have a bit more to say on that.

Thanks for that but no one else has any information of successful assembly.
