Cylinder head guards - 1100GS

After searching old threads, I've decided to fit some head protectors to my 1100 to replace the plastic thingies.
The best ones would appear to be Steptoe's, but he doesn't have any!
That leaves T-a-T and Wunderlich.
Has anyone any experience of either of these? Any recommendations? (ie apart from don't drop it in the first place!)

Yes, so did I. It would be nice to have an update before I committed myself. If he is going to have them imminently (or maybe just a confirmed date) then I could wait.
I'm not keen on tempting providence!

Not up to me when they arrive- I have to wait on the foundry. And at the moment i'm waiting.

I can't expect them to drop a £100,000 run of work for a few headguards. They try and fit me in between large runs of work. I usually get a weeks notice.

I'll wait for you to post saying when you've got some. I really like the look of yours so I'll join the patient queue! (not the queue of patients.......)

Having used Steptoes headguards and been flipped off at 25 mph, picked the bike up and rode off, I can recommend that you wait,


they don't protect you from the embarrassment though

Yep they work 40+ Mph off at Rockingham a couple of years ago only worn 1/2 way through & the Barkbusters worked fine too.

I make a habit of not allowing the bike to go over while moving.. however at a standstill is a different matter.

They work then too.

I have Touratech ones on an 1150 twin spark, suspect they're similar on the 1100? The ali bends a little when the bike goes over, but bends back OK (I ignore slight distortion, but when it reaches the valve cover I've bent it back). No high speed experience, juts a few off-road tips and some scrote pushing the bike over when parked. They survive impacts that would break the stock plastic BMW guards (which do the job in similar tipovers but at the cost of needing replacement).

Steptoe guards look much more substantial...

Some useful feedback, thank you. I'm pretty much convinced about Steptoe's version, but still considering the T-a-T or Wunderlich as an interim measure.
I could always sell them on if I can get some of Steptoe's at some point.

Any more comments about T-a-T and Wunderlich would be appreciated.

I've got some of Steptoes guards and they're great if the bike goes over etc. Exactly as advertised. Only problem with them I think is that you have to take the whole lot off to get the plug out or to check the tappets. The M5 (or whatever) fixings are absolute sh*t magnets and are prone (in my experience at least) to snapping and leaving you fecked.

If I had the money, I'd go for something like these

They look a lot better and you can get full access without having to remove them.
