What is everyone running to protect the gap in the crash bars for the cylinder heads?

Something like this but it seems a bit small?

Same as Gavla for me, poor design that allows the cam cover to be slightly proud of the bars designed to protect them.

I have those same things but curious if anyone has anything to prevent branches etc puncturing that engine casing etc

The issue is those crashbars are about as much use as a chocolate fire guard. The slightest knock and the fold inwards and the head cover takes a scrape down the road.

X head guards are expensive but worth every penny imho as they take the hit.

Also, the Touratech additional strengthening bar is worth buying too as it helps stop the bar from bending in the first place.

BMW crashbars have always been badly designed and a bit flimsy. The 1150 ones were great at flipping the bike and causing more damage than without them 😂

X head guards?

Do those fit under the stock engine crash bars? Below is a picture of mine for clarification:

If you scroll down the blurb in the link @Flipfly posted it says they'll fit a 2019 on 1250GSA with either the BMW original or Wunderlict engine bars. I have them on my 1250RS after swapping them over from my 1250GS and personally I prefer them as they're neater in the same way I preferred the vario boxes that didn't need the associated scaffolding on the bike to mount them to.
I swapped to the X heads when I got my 1st 1250 as the SW motech engine bars I had on my 1200 LC wouldn't fitted 1250 and they were cheaper than getting another set of engine bars and far easier to fit, though be careful when you screw the bottom mounting bolt in as the corresponding thread on the bike is at an angle so it's easy to cross thread it if you don't start it off with your fingers first. Don't tighten any of the bolts until you've started all 3 with your fingers.

Awesome advice, thank you! Just looking to try protect this "tank" as much as I can, if I do drop it, I don't want to have to worry about any damage afterwards.

I'll also get that Wunderlich reinforcing brace for the crash bars..

I have the BMW OEM guards on my GSA. They fit perfectly with the OEM engine bars.
On a side note for this, these and the MAM X-Head guards have rubber inserts, which contact the rocker cover face. I found the MAM X-Head guards had a tendency to trap dirt under them, which marked the rocker cover face. The OEM ones have not suffered from this.

I use the x-head guards with SWmotcech engine bars.

You do have to loosen the bars to remove the cover on the left side (IIRC). But theRHS you can do with the bars on still.

Fitted the Machine Art head guards to 1250 GSA, there is some clearance to crash bars, but only a few mm
Did you remove the engine crash bars or just loosen them a bit?
