Cylinder head protectors

I just bought a pair of BMW cylinder head covers from eBay for my twin cam. Should they have rubber inserts? I am replacing a pair of BMW plastic guards and these alloy ones would almost fit over the top of them.

If they are the GSA alloy ones, they should have a rubber insert for each side , that's the bit that absorbs the shock on a drop

That makes sense, the spacers are missing as well. The rubbers from my plastic head protectors might fit with some surgery and a decent contact adhesive.
