Hi,

I have a bit of flakey paint on the offside pot, and was wondering what is the best way of dealing with it ... i.e. where to get the paint from and is there a right and wrong way of doing the repaint ..

Cheers

Have a search around for folks who've resprayed their front covers. Etch primer and Hammerite smooth silver are favourites. Did my cylinder heads a while ago and they came up a treat.

Just search for 'hammerite' - loads of stuff on here from re-painters (including me) :thumb

I am considering this as part of a titivating project. There are only a couple of bits of flaky paint on my pots. I can see the sense in hammerite etc but on the other side of the coin am thinking of just doing the small specific areas. Is the hammerite a good colour match or is it only suitable if you re-do the lot? Am wondering if BMW supply some touch up that is a match for the original as this might be all I need for now.

Any thoughts?

Hammerite smooth silver is a good enough match when you do complete components but you probably wouldn't want to use it as 'touch-up' paint for small areas. You also have to accept that whichever bit you've painted will look all shiny and new against the rest of the engine.

I did my rocker covers and front engine cover and am happy with the result. As with all jobs like this, the quality of the final result is down to the prep really.

Many thanks for your input guys ... I think the hammerite route is the route I will go .. Ta :beerjug:
