Hi peeps im about to put a deposit down on a new 1250 GS and I’m looking for recommendations on which engine and radiator guards to fit. Do i use motorad ones £449 or buy after market ones like Givi. Any thoughts and what do you use ?

Hiya fella, I bought the BMW engine guards as at the time that’s all what was available - NN now does stock other types. As for the ones I bought they are top quality, perfect fit and very much fit for purpose including the little plastic ‘pad’ that stops the bar from going into the valve cover on a spill. As for the rad guards of course you’ve gotta buy mine!!!!!!!!! :)

But seriously, I hope you get sorted with the right stuff.

I’d suggest possibly the best value/quality balance would be mebbe some wunderlich ones from NN?

No when i say rad guards i mean the top bars that protect the fairing and outside of the rads. To match the crash bars on the cylinders

Ahhhh, soz pal. No, I didn’t get the rad guard (or top bars) that you refer too. I do think they are available tho. Watch out for cheap stuff, I recently fixed a bike for someone who the engine bar had been pushed in to the valve cover, doing more damage to something it was meant to protect.

Yeah I’ve seen bars that are supported at the front but not at the back cant remember make but i wont buy them. Was looking at Givi ones and they encase the whole cylinder and are supported at three points so look ok. Maybe others have a point of view on them. Bike isn’t in country yet be three weeks or so but wont be on road till next month.

Tried to order them today to go on my Rallye but were informed there on back order, told the bike will arrive before they do.

Im going to fit after market ones, the price of the OEM is steep considering that for the same money i can fit tank guards too. Im only going to consider ones that bolt on in four places for rigidity.

Taken the plunge and parted with 349 shekels for a full set of Givi crash bars both top and bottom ones. They look like good value i think but will let you know when they arrive and I’ve fitted them. Ohh bought them from Native Viking, whom ive dealt with many times before and found him to be very courteous and pleasant to deal with.
