DAB radio question

I've got myself one of the ASDA dab radio's mentioned on here ....

It uses the headphone wire as the Aerial... or in this case the wire from the jack plug up to the Autocom.

Generally its pretty good, but it still drops out on a regular basis.

Is there a DAB radio to be had that has a seperate aerial , or indeed is the price you pay indicative on consitency... or do they all drop in and out?

If you get my meaning.... The MP3's on the satnav would be totally rendundant if I could find a DAB radio that keeps on the station

Ive just bought a brand new BMW X3 with DAB, they all do that sir

e.g theres a 10mtre stretch of road in front of my house where it drops out every time, as I reverse into the driveway on it comes again

How on did you fit an X3 to your bike - is there a touratech bracket or something available.

I use a Pure Highway. It stays connected most of the time but it does depend on the area your in. Some stations are better than others too.

+1 on the Pure Highway. Reception not brilliant when moving through outer London.

I have a Pure highway through autocom,if you get the external aerial it transforms the reception.

I've got a pure highway in the car and it works pretty well. Will be trying in on the bike now I've gone "wired" on the intercom.

Any thoughts on where the aerial goes.. And indeed would it suit the whip type or windscreen mounted version ? (Both mention 'magnetic' up to 85mph )

Mine is the stick on aerial, low down on the screen.
Radio is secured using the car windscreen mount adapted to fit on the adventure lower screen support.

They are not waterproof I guess but mine is left on in all weathers...

The Pure highway uses a ciggy lighter for power, sometimes it all goes tits up.

Think its the plug in thingy you get with the radio . I go through one every year but they aint expensive.

If Im not making sense its because its Friday night and its my first night off since new year...

When I had it in the car I used the stick on aerial and it was not very good reception. On the bike I have a mag mount whip aerial on a bracket near the seat which has transformed the signal. If you pm me I think I still have some pictures I sent to someone else who was asking the same question.

Can you run the whip aerial when only running the radio on the AAA batteries, or do you have to use the ciggy power adapter?

Not sure to be honest I have the radio powered by a relay which is controlled by the canbus socket. I am sure I read somewhere that the radio will eat batteries at a fare rate.

I thought I'd read that the external aerial needed more than internal battery power, which ties in with your thoughts.
