For those of you with an Autocom ....

I've just got myself one of these....

http://www.tesco.com/direct/technik...-radio/208-6909.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=208-6909

connected to the Autocom, the headphone cable is the aerial..... now in the past I've tried a few and got mixed quality DAB reception... so this time I used a splitter, and put an extra aerial cable in around the front of the cockpit behind the lights

Radio sits in the top tank compartment on the GTR . 28 mile journey to work and back, in a fairly built up journey no loss of DAB signal for the entire journey... so a good result :thumb

Bargain price too :Motomartin

Good shout Bryn that, have been looking out for one. Early days I expect but what sort of battery life do you get?

Edit: Just had a look through some of the reviews, state about 8 with rechargeables, so that's pretty decent.

I'm hoping for 8-10.... don't suppose putting it through the autocom should sap them any quicker :)

How does DAB work with the signal strength?
Does it retune to different signals as you go?
Thinking of something like this for longer journeys and not sure how DAB works.....perhaps I should google it :blast

I believe that if you tune to a national DAB station, such as Radio 1/2 etc, or BFBS ( my preferred) you should get it nationwide....

If not you can always tune into an FM station , as the radio does both :thumb

I reckon its worth the dosh....

I started with an Asda DAB/FM radio, and it was dropping in and out all the time...( admittedly without the extra splitter ) so I 'upgraded' to a Pure Highway complete with external whip aerial.... signal worse than the ASDA one and didn't have the option of switching to FM as it didn't have it ( blamed it mostly on the bike and the placing of the aerial )

So really pleased in the little time I've had to test this one it seems to have solved the issue :bounce1

But is that 8 hours using FM or Digital? DAB radios are known for eating batteries.

Is this the sort of splitter you used:

and was the extra aerial cable just an extension lead for a headphones like:

Picked mine up yesterday and first impression is very good, only tried it in the car but seems to hold stations well. Not convinced the battery will last long though, but good value and will try on the bike thru the Starcom next.

So is it still working well Bryn?

Tried it on a trip down to Dover ... 190 miles on BFBS ( try it... a good station)

Dropped out twice for about a second on the whole trip.... so very pleased with it..... plenty of juice for the return trip... which put this test at around 7 hours on DAB... so for your average day out.. no problems :thumb

Sounds good, thanks for the update. I bought one last week and tried it yesterday around the area and seemed very good. Dropped out a couple of times in wooded and normally bad reception areas which is to be expected.
Have you found a way/place to mount the radio yet?
I have mine connected via the Starcom through the Aux in but this seems to be hit and miss with the Sat Nav instructions though.

I use mine with the GTR 1400... it has a convenient tank top storage compartment ideal for a small mp3/radio

It's plumbed into the Autocom, clear music up to around 80mph....seems fine when 660 zumo is giving directions as well :thumb2

Used my DAB for the 1st time today. What a great bit of kit. Rode the 30 mile round trip for work and the only bad reception was near to home, which I expected. Will have to try the extending the headphone cable :thumb2

I have a Zumo 500, anyone know of an inexpensive way I can wire the DAB and Zumo together so I get the audio directions through the headset :nenau
(As you have probably worked out I know virtually fek all about bike comms)

Found somewhere to put the Dab, shame its not waterproof though.

Any way of putting it into a zip loc bag? :Motomartin
