Having owned a 2007 GS R1200ADV now for just 3 weeks I am asking does anyone know anywhere that fit or sell, proper lowering foot pegs and if possible more forward. (Looked at the touratek ones and they dont seem to lower much and are still spiky pegs! This would have to include brake and gear lever extensions. I am sick of trying to get my 29" legs to the floor when stopping and the slightest camber is terrible, it makes the enjoment less as I am consentrating on where to try and stop and park etc.

Yesterday whilst on a ride with my local IAM. I fell off in a busy main road centre as my new Daytona boots stuck to the spiky pegs"dont see why I have to have them" and I could not lift my foot of the peg thus falling on my leftside lol "Ha Ha" yes so did I but I am fed up with it now, so I must fix it or sell it dont know why they are so high, moral of story is ride before you buy!

It is a bike I would keep if I could make it how I wish. Or I would chop it in if anyone has any ideas of a bike that would be lower, I am 6 foot 2 " and 25stone SIZE 13UK feet ride GL1800 wings and Harley Davidson Electra Glide which are 29" and 27.5" so when I go out on the 4x4 GS as my wife calls it I am fine apart from the pegs and seat height. Is there a 2009 lower model maybe?

Idea's please?

Thanks Big Derek

Check out Nippy Normans, Wunderlich and Touratech , plus fitting a lower seat-lots of posts on here re both options -place a "Wanted" ad on here too -loadsa folk will have something to help.
Oh yes,, there's Chunk's site too -

An aside -did you not ride the bike or a demo bike before you bought one:confused::confused::confused: - any BM dealer should be only too happy to give you a test ride.....you don't HAVE to buy the bike from them !!! And it's good fun- loved my ride on an 800GS at Balderstons, but didn't buy one, and they didn't try to sell it to me either, just had a boys on bikes chat. However if I was to buy one, I'd happily go back to them- that's how they get sales, I reckon.:thumb2

If it helps, when I traded my old airhead RS mono for my present 1150 GSA, I felt a bit like you are feeling, but I made sure I rode it as much as I could, and I was hooked (not on the footpegs...the bike that is !) I now have a slightly lower seat fitted -I got a local upholsterer to re-sculpt and re-cover the seat -cost me all of £40 I think.
Stick with it -:thumb2 The bikes really do grow on you ...can't stop now, off for a 'bike ride;)

Derek,

Why not just grind the spikey tooth-like bits off of the top of the footpegs ?

It will only make them a little lower, but will solve the problem of your choice of footwear 'sticking' to them.

Plus of course it will cost you bugger all.

Do you really have an Adventure? That's a very tall bike for someone with 29" legs :eek

You should start with a lower seat, but you can also get the shocks replaced with shorter units, which will make a big difference.

I would imagine that having 25st. placed on the saddle lowers it somewhat !!

Depends what the preload's set to. There's a reason I didn't suggest backing off the preload as a possible solution :D

Hi yes I to have looked at the pre load on the rear shock, but in the blur it can hold 64stones or something like that. I aint there yet(lol) Does each click lift it higher away from th eground that much?

Anyway I may not have made may question clear I have a BMW ADV low seat which so the BMW dealer today at Grimsby told me it has also been sculptured! Made even lower but the seat tends to throw you towards the tank hump!

Here is the strange thing when I sat on my pals 2008 GS R1200ADV with a stock seat my feet were more on the ground than my bike with this so called lower seat? So I took the seat today today to ASTLE BMW Grimsby and he sat me on a 2008 1200ADV with a stock seat and pegs and again I feel better on it? "WHY" has the frame or the position of the rider peg mounts been altered from the 2007 to the 2008 model? "Who can answer that with real in the know" Co's I am sure that the 08 is a better postion for even a big fellow like me!

I am going to have to ride over and borrow the demo 08 bike like Roger in this thread said, and No I did not have a test ride I bought this bike on a whim, and I am liking it apart from this bloody seat and peg thing! I hope I can sort it even if it means me swaping a 07 for a 08 but I need to know first, Plus grinding the spikes off ? Well I aint sure but it may well work.

Thanx for your ideas and any more :thumb2help please

Hi there, i would advise setting your preload up correctly rather than increasing your static sag too much. It will affect the handling of the bike and generally mess everything up. If needed you could get a shorter set of shocks, most shock manufacturers offer this service. A decent local seat recovered is topsaddleryuk.co.uk

Theyre only down the road in cov as well. Im gonna get them to sort out my 1150 seats where the sun has paled them and i might have mine increased in height (im a lanky swine) but they could sort out your seat to lower it for you.

Another alternative would be a touratech seat, available in 5 different heights.

Im sure you can get it sorted, would be a shame to get rid... espicially with the depreciation... ouch:rob

6'2" and 29" legs??

bloody hell!! i'm 5'7.5" and mine are 31" :) and i struggle a bit on a GS...

Big D' re the seat throwing your riding position to the front, have a look here as well, I sure Vern would help you if this mod is a viable one for the 1200.

I've got a similar (though not as many) set on my 1150 and they really work.

Hello Big Derek, I have a 1200 GS which I also found too tall, also 29" leg, fitted lower Ohlins and a lowered Sargent seat, did the trick for me !

my new Daytona boots stuck to the spiky pegs

Get the footrest rubbers that bmw sell, I think their from the 650. They fit on top of the footrest and and are specifically made for these pegs. They raise your feet about a cm higher. They also reduce vibration through the pegs.

I have some that I`ll be selling, so if you want them, let me know.

Hi Big D.

can't really add too much useful, as I have an 1150, but when I got my seat re-covered, I got the guy to flatten out and remove the "hump" that kinda forces you to sit in one place - I , like you, prefer to sit back a bit from the tank ! So, if you do get your seat re-shaped, ask the fella to shave off some foam (sounds like a barber !)....
Also, aren't there little rubber "inserts" that go in the footpegs on the 1200 ?
MAybe wrong there, so ignore if so !!

Good luck, and persevere -it'll be worth it in the end:thumb

hi can you tell me more about the rubbers and how much you need for them

ta BIG D

yes i want them

HI Great I want to buy them what do we do? Please let me know

Now i am just a tad confused ? ( it does not take much to be honest )

But at the beginning of this thread Large Derek was requesting 'lower' footpegs, now surely those rubber dubries will actually raise the said fotpegs !!

Of course they may well stop his boots sticking to the teeth on the originals but a few minutes with a grinder would cure that problem and also lower them a cockhair......

Just my 2 Bahts worth.
