This version 2 vest was a replacement for version 1 jacket, the v1 was heavier and had 0 airflow, however it lasted over 25 hours on one charge.
So when in May I received an email from Dainese that v2 version now has 18 hours battery life from 12 hours and a price reduction to £450, I was in. Did some research and Alpinestar tech-air 5 was also an option. I ended purchasing the V2 from Sportbikeshop.
The vest is smaller than the V1 hence airflow is not a problem, also is made of a different material to aid airflow. Used it in 37C and was ok, with a cooling vest combination it's perfect. And that should be the end of the review...
The software was updated and the battery life is now suposed to last 18 hours and you can use it off road. However...in two months use I am on my third vest. The battery life is not acceptable. First vest lasted no more than just under 6 hours and 319km/200m, second vest lasted 6 hours and 282km/175m, from 100% charge dropped to 9% charge. It had a third software update. This is commuting distance and time.
It was also behaving in an odd way. Was showing 10% battery when I took it off in the morning when arrived to the office, when I went to put on the vest it was showing 0%. I shut the vest down left it for 5min and checked the battery level (via the app) and it was showing 3%.
Testing now the third vest. In 3 days it lost 5% (it was switched off AND in shipping mode as explained in the manual) from 100% charge.
The shop was very good in replacing the vest, I also contacted Dainese regarding the poor battery life. Sportbikeshop provided me with the third vest, the latest batch they received from the importer.
Now I have the third vest, again updated the software and was in Shipping mode for the past 3 days. Lost 5% battery charge from 100% when I checked today, I do understand that this model battery will lose charge, from what I learned usually a 2/3% a month is expected.
I will recharge the vest today to 100% and over the next few days will see how it behaves.
All the vests had the software update and they were stored according to the manual in Shipping mode. Love the jacket, full level 2 protection front and back, good ventilation. But something is draining the battery, and when I tour I do 350/400 miles 8/9 hours which means it would be quiet useless, can't charge and use the vest.
Tech 5 also suffered from battery loss when connect to the app, most user close the app and use the buttons on the jacket. So I shall try closing the app when using the v2 and see if it makes any difference. The vest is connected to the app via Bluetooth.
