Snow snow snow... and rain

Hi, I got back to UK Thursday, on the last Bilbao Acciona ferry (140 yoyos single) - major snow challenges in Northern Spain, heading up the A1 to Burgos - v.scary. Had to sit behind a snow plough for about 60k. Road closed. Fingers ready to break off, couldnt see a bloody thing with the snow flakes. Mask kept icing up with snow. Getting to the ferry was practically a religious experience. Then as you go over the mountains to Bilbao, the signs on the road say "Rain", and I thort, how do they know it will rain? then it rained!! all the way to the ferry - so I just kept going. The thort of continuing up thru France was too much!

Lots of lessons learnt. Safe trip for those still out there.

Saw young Andy with a guy on a KTM at the border at Western Sahara he saw Loz at the Zebra bar.If you ride up through france & need a place to stay in kent give us a bell . Any news from Loz & Tim . 10 mins after i decided to go my own way in south Senegal hit a pot hole which knocked the cap off the rear drive & chucked the oil out had to make a new cap (will add it to the Stigtech range) Cheers Kev

Burgos  . Near where this picture was taken, in a petrol station, at 4.30am December 05.

But i had a shitebag and muffs with heated clothing, so don't know what all the fuss is about. And i kept the bag and muffs on riding around morocco :D

back in the uk

back in the uk now, spent a few days in malaga then burnt through the fog, snow and ice all the way to Caen to catch the ferry last night to portsmouth. dont think the chain or tyres would have done another mile there hanging. glad u got back ok kev, any news from loz or is he still in zebra bar.
who would of thought the old xt would have done 12000km without missing a beat and only 1 puncture. excluding the 2 times i dropped it when i was stationary i didnt have an off the whole journey. thanks to all for assistance, support and loans!! keep in touch.

by the way No 6 where did you go?!!!

cheeers Andy

Good to see your back ok Andy . im going up the Ace Cafe on sunday theres a bit of a horizionsunlimited meet & a gs meet on the same day . So thought id go cant seem to stop ridding the bike since i got back even with the blown shock .

Freeezzzzzinnngggg - road closed - Burgos

Burgos  . Isn't it funny, how all the feelings are so alike from person to person when you get in the shite in an alien enviroment - petrol, paranoia and the fecking smiling locals .

I love that quote you use! This is me on the closed road, alone and think how do I get out of this one! Wen the snow plough pulled up and done the hero bit. Poor qual picture, but you get the gist of it! Thank god for heated grips - but the tips of ya fingers still catch it. Also, my grips (Oxfords) were brand new, but kept malfunctioning. Going back with them tomorrow!
Glad your all dripping back safe and sound...

Cheers Kev, I´m still in southern Spain awaiting the thaw  I´m heading back up tomorrow though for the ferry on Tuesday, hope it´s better by then.
Andy.

(and don´t mention potholes to me:( Me and Andy did the Kaolack - Tambacounda road twice, 120 miles of the worst potholes you have ever seen, you would swear the road had been cluster-bombed. Dozens of broken trucks and one artic overturned.)

Only 2 ??? I counted 3 :D

Waited awhile in Kaolack then made to Dakar but stopped just short as it was getting dark. Then went back to St Louis and tried to get back via Diama but had to go to Rosso :spitfire

Thank god for heated grips - but the tips of ya fingers still catch it. ...[/QUOTE]
My hand where fine .
You need some you need some 5lt plastic cotainer handgaurds available from the Stigtech range & all good rubish tips.
Stigtech also do gauchos & satnav mounts in there ever growing range.

you didnt have any probs not having import docs. luckilly i only got stopped once on way to rosso and a 20euro bung a pen and a fag lighter sorted it out. luckilly found out that couldnt return via diama by peoples at zebra bar due to single entry visa.

i think we all had to go to Roso . I passed the overturned truck as well & the truck with the broken axle . I thought you fell off more than twice as well cheers for the link not sure how the would stand up to having 1/4 ton + of gs on the each time the bike gets stuck May go for soft lugage or amo boxs or get some made but they would be an inprovement on mine thats the problem when you buy instead of make (no stigtech gear broke) LOL
