Far from a pukka ride report but me and an old friend just spent a cracking couple of day on the lanes of Derbyshire.

I was on my 690 and he was on his 450RR that competed in the 2012 Dakar ridden by Gianernesto Astori.
It was bloody marvellous and I was lucky enough to have an hour on it.

It`s not seen a lot of Derbyshire ice though:D

That last pic needs a caption. Somethign along the lines of "How the hell am I going to get that picked up without walking in ice-cold muddy water in my trainers?" :D

Forgive me for asking but what is all that?

to try and offer a vaguely understandable answer.

it's called the cockpit layout all vary abit the three smaller things look like IMO's these for want of a better word are additional trip counters. the big thing is the road book and that can be driven electrically or manual wind on.

the reasons

1 road book gives you instructions such as ride 10Km in river bed near big tree make left fork... in simple numbers and picto-grams

2. the Imo's will confirm that you've covered about 10Km's as it's meant to be more accurate that the onboard clocks, being based on physical turns of the front wheel... so you should be looking for a big tree and fork in track

3. there's also some extra GPS aerials I guess...? (bits of crap tied on with cable ties top of the picture)

Also you may have sat nav set to either goal or way point steps... this give you a rough indication that your more or less on track and hopefully inside the safe corridor for the sweeper vehicle...

it's all a bloody nightmare to use and takes a good while to get use to it... the pilot (rider) is not hindered by having to stop and look at a map, and the ride can flow better... unless it all falls apart...
then it seemed a good idea at the time of buying it...

hope that helps...:thumb2

the stupid thing is this, there's a stack of other competitors all going roughly in the same direction, by the law of averages they can't all be lost....

it might be easier to save weight throw all that shit off the bike and follow someone who knows their onions....:thumb2

You forgot the most critical of off road equipment which appears to be broken :blast How the bike can run without a functioning honk honk horn is beyond me :nenau

I can only assume that the rubber squeezy bit has been stashed to stop the locals using it as a some sort of drug toking tool.
