My minds eye
After being coerced into making several sets of these locally, I have decided to add these to the list of custom products I make here at the workshop. Some of you will remember the first set I made, and posted on here, once again thanks to the many who supplied inspiration and critique.
I will update my website over the course of the day, with detailed build info and specs (www.thechopfactory.com), in the meantime, I though I'd plug my Pannier line here :)

Going under the name Dakar Panniers, you either love, or hate the look. They are however, extremely robust, and in the event of a serious spill in the rockies, should they break, they can be repaired at the roadside with a few 5mm rivetts, whereas a tig welder maybe harder to source, should your panniers be of the welded type.

Our standard panniers are 41l versions measuring 260mm x 380mm x 425mm.
They are hand build twice, the first being a bolt-together mockup, they are then dissassembled, de-burred, and the individual plates lined with neoprene. Rivett holes are then recessed in the neoprene, and the pannels are seam sealed and rivetted together.

Each pannier is made from 2mm aluminium, with stainless hinges, aluminium extrusion lid seams, corner braces, and galvanised corner ball protectors.
They are lockable, and each box features a hand-made brass nameplate with serial number.

Prices start at £400.00 per pair. We are able to supply them with tie-down mounts, and bottle carriers fitted, as well as internal document safes.

Hah hah hah, what a lovely top box, and almost a perfect match for the panniers.
To answer your question, yes, They can be powdercoated to any colour scheme, there will be a price adjustment for this of course, but I use a great shop locally for my other bits & bobs.

Hi Uncle Bully, can you tell me how they would fit to the bike, what pannier racks would it fit onto etc.

Thank you
Rick

Hi Ricky.
There are a couple of fitment options available, depending on the luggage rack you currently have on your bike.

It's difficult for us to pre make fixed mounts, as customers have different bikes, and different ideas about pannier placement, ie; height and forward placement, and the different style of racks in use. For Hepco and Zega type racks we can supply fittings for the customer to mount their own panniers.

Where no racks are present, we can fabricate the rack, but would need the motorcycle here for that purpose.

Alternatively, there are several vendors here that make GS specific racks for aftermarket panniers.

And finally if our customers are too far away to bring the bike in for fitting, we recommend taking them to their local engineering/fabrication shop where they could have either racks made, or someone could assist with the mounting of the panniers.

I hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Si

Man alive Uncle Bully, there awesome!

Would these fit onto a F800GS? What's the situation regarding mounts, would these have to be sourced elsewhere?

Well done. They look top kit. As a matter of interest, what do they weigh in at?
Henry

Our standard size, the 41 litre set, measures 260mm x 425mm x 380mm, and weighing 5 kilos each. Slightly heavier than other makes, but in our opinion, make up for it by being able to withstand some serious abuse, and should the worse happen, somewhere very remote, some 5mm rivets and a rivet gun will soon have you on your way a lot more quickly than having to track down a tig welder in Ulaanbaatar. Our pannier sets are made to order, and usually involve a 2 week manufacturing and delivery time, sometime longer for special orders and parts. We can build sets with document safes in the lids, sets with tie-down points, or special equipment mounts..
