Hi, yes it’s my favourite too but the routing from the east favoured the other 2 as we were departing to the north.

Day 12
Aarburg to Karlsrhue via the Black Forrest S to N.
Short day miles wise today so a 1000 start.
Accepting the fact that it’ll be hot, hoping that a bit life altitude and shade in the Forrest will help.
Least resistance route to the border, then the good roads start.
Into Todtmoos for fuel and rest, there are about 30 bikes parked up with people in various stages of bike and bladder re hydration.
Onto Triberg for a good long stop and mandatory visit to the shop of 1000 clocks (998now), for a tatathon.
David finds the only acceptable size ice cream on a day where the TFT shows 42 at one point.
Ouch, where’s the next AC and ice cream.

Staying 90 pc off the 500, we can “make progress”
I’d forgotten that the v85 has rev limiter lights in a fancy pattern on the lcd.
Up to the Mummelsee for a quick rest and fridge magnet
shop then its exit Forrest and relax on Autobahn for last 18 miles to hotel.
Underground parking sorted, it’s cold shower time.
I set about trying to rescue something for tomorrow, Plan A will be too long.
But I want to hit a river then Trier……

We had the courtesy to park and pay at an approved car park , then find these Dutch bikes just rode onto the pavement right outside the ice cream shop. Outrageous.

Karlsrhue to Trier via Moselle
Shortened day due to temperatures so basically NW to intercept river near Cochem then follow the blue bit to Trier
The initial roads are surprisingly good, we keep a good rolling average whilst sweating like Paratroopers at a spelling test.
Plenty of stops, hydrate, move on.
David rehydrates with cake
Take no prisoners in this heat, I’ve wrestled his water bowl off him

Trier to Kent Hotel
Fire up at 0730 and basically hack up to Bastogne.
30 mins there then it’s select ferry port and feather throttle according to ETA.
Works bang on and we arrive 1hr 20 before ferry
No biometrics
No helmet off
No dramas
No nothing.
On strapped down and coffee

100 euro fine for not having a tank photo in Bastogne.
David avoids a fine.

I’d like to think it was a Panzer, but I suspect in might have been the Belgian equivalent of a scrote.
