I recently spilt the best part of a pint of lager onto my laptop whilst it was swithed on. It fizzled and died and now wont turn on at all. I have made a claim on the insurance and have had to send it to a company called CIIS in Portsmouth. Question is will they spend a lot of time trying to repair it or will they just right it off? I've never claimed for anything like a laptop before and would welcome any info on similar experiences anyone might have had.
Cheers
Phil
It all depends on the cost of a replacement laptop and the cost of the repairs.
My lovely daughter split the whole contents of a cup of coffee on my brand new Dell laptop just before Christmas. In fact it was so new it had only been switched on for 7 minutes, I hadnt got past setting the keyboard up let alone logging in
I spoke to Dell, that night who arranged to have it collected the very next day, which it was, top service.
Dell then quoted me £150 to repair it, as I have not made a claim in years I decided not to claim on the household insurance.
24 hours later, Dell contacted me again and said that the Motherboard and the keyboard both needed replacing and wanted another £250.
At this point I then contacted my insurance, they asked me to send it back to them so that they could inspect and report on it. But I told them where it was and that it was in the process of being repaired.
Then after a week, the insurance rang me and said dont get it repaired we will replace it with a brand new one.......
The laptop was just over a grand and the repairs were just over £400 and they were quite happy and prepared to write it off?
But its gets better, Dell had already repaired it and it had already been despatched back to me.
Cutting a long story short, the insurance company have only just paid me for the repair, some 6 weeks after the event.
No idea if that answers your question or not really.
