Just a few quick notes about some new bike kit i purchased. Made by a company called ‘DANE’ and supplied by our very own LO-IQ a week or so back. I have in the past generally stuck to Hein Gericke kit, having over the years had a combination of the Cruise kit, Master 4 and Master 5 kit.

I had wanted to replace my kit as my Master 4 jacket had leaked and was replaced with a new style HG Cruise jacket, which I never found particularly comfortable. Plus the pair of HG Master 5 trousers I had just seemed to hang on me like a bag of potatoes.

So after selling my jacket & trousers on and doing the usual hunting high and low for a replacement kit I eventually opted for the Dane kit. I was taking a bit of a punt, as I had not actually seen it in the flesh. But with a good selection of size choices I opted for the top of the range ARDEN jacket and Tondor trousers as they were both made from the latest GORE-TEX® XCR material, which I had experienced in the Master 5 trousers as being excellent.

The equivalent level of jacket and trousers from Hein Gericke the Master 5 would have set me back in excess of £800, Rukka probably £1000+, but this pair together cost me well under £600. Which I thought was very good value , plus it goes towards helping LO-IQ and his Mongolian rally quest.
The jacket came fitted with a zip in/ out winter liner, Elbow, shoulder and a back protector. The trousers come fitted with a zip in/ out winter liner, knee armour and have pockets for hip armour.

Some pictures below:

The jacket showing it's zip in liner which has a good overlap behind the zip. The plastic eyelet on the 2nd picture is for where the gusset strap secures.

The jacket only has one zip, but a decent storm flap runs from top to bottom including a bit that goes across your throat. The second pic also shows the two zipped chest pockets.

In adition to the chest pockets, the jacket has two waterproof pockets on the front below the waist, which has a adjustable belt. The bottom of the jacket has a drawcord to stop drafts.

The neck has a leather trim to stop rubbing. The cuffs have Gore-Tex storm cuffs, zips and velcro adjustment. Near to the top of the arms it has the normal velcro adjustment.

The trousers have a removable liner, two front zipped pockets and a adjustable belt. On your backside you have a couple of leather patches to stopped you sliding around. Also the usual zipped flaps to get the trousers over your boots and an adjustable velcro strap to take up any slack.

All in all i would say it is a very nice bit of kit which has a high level of finish. I think it is better finsed than any of the Hein Gericke kit i have had, and maybe up with the Rukka kit. It looks superb when on and fits nicely if a little stiff, but it is still new. Perhaps the only thing is that it does not have a ventilation zips, but it does not matter to me as i have a fully vented jacket and trousers for summer use.

LO-IQ can supply any of the three makes of kit link below from what i understand.

Stu,
It's brilliant have you ever thought about becomeing a journo?

Stu,

Thank you very much for bringing this dealership to my attention. The German magazine Motorrad occasionally includes these brands in its comparison tests, but thinking that that there was no importer, I have omitted them from my reports in the BMW club magazine. I shall include them in future!

John

Thanks again for pointing me at the Motoport Website. I live in London and don't get about much :comfort

I haven't ever visited any of the dealers in the network except Fowlers - and that was 6 years ago!

come fown to my place, it's near london well Weybridge. We're not even on the list yet, but I'm working on it.

Can't offer much but I can offer you a nice cup of tea and biscuits while stocks last under current climatic conditions

I bought one of these dane jackets (ESBJERG) 3 years ago, starting to look a bit worn round the edges, but as a jacket brilliant
last year rode Leeds to Saarbruken in one go, heavy to torrential rain all the way----not a drop of water got through---- the Gericke trousers were a different story. The outside of the jacket was saturated, to the extent that when I got off to refuel water runs out of the jacket----both hip pockets and chest pockets stayed dry internally.
Always washes up well
only wear in 3 years use is to the collar fraying slightly, I notice the newer jackets have leather trim around the collar

bought from my local dealer Honda castleford, who at the present has a selection of dane gear on display if you want to have a look and feel

Thought I'd update this thread we've now sold six sets of this kit and everyone has said how good it is. I'm just posting another set to Ireland, and will ask the purchaser to drop a comment in the thread.

Seeing as this has been pushed to the top

I have been using the kit i purchased through all this recent hot weather with the liners removed obviously and it has been surprisingly cool and not boil in the bag as you might except considering it does not have ventilation zips. Guess it proves that the Gore-tex XCR works.
I have been wearing it in preferance to my proper summer kit with mesh panels and ventilation zips.

Good gear and still pleased with my choice :thumb2

Got my suit from Lo-IQ in June..... hoped to have it before my long weekend in Scotland, but it was not to be. I took my Rukka kit, which was tested to the limit again in Highland downpours. The Rukka lets in as a small gap appears between the trousers and jacket, due to the jacket being quite short.... on a recent trip with another Tosser, his, more expensive Rukka XCR Armax did the same. Material stays waterproof, but heavy rain finds a way in after hours of riding. Well the Dane jacket is much longer and I believe may prevent this.

My Dane suit arrived as i returned from the wet Scotland trip. First impression was very good. I ordered the same sizing as the Rukka, trousers in a short leg fitting and a 58 jacket. The jacket is definately a lot neater than the Rukka, I knew this but still went for the same sizing, in hope of slimming down into it! The finish is excellent, with some neat features. The armour however is not as state of the art as Rukka. My first ride after returning home was to take the bike to work and get it cleaned over lunchtime. It just started raining and I decided to wear an old suit..... just as well. I was hit from behind by a car driver whilst stationary waiting to turn left at a T junction. So the Dane is still un-scathed. The bike was off the road for a month, then I sold it the day I got it back..... moved up to an 08 GSA :JB .

So I havent been able to comment on the everyday use of the Dane.... looks good, feels like quality kit. Def better than Hein Gericke suits I have owned in the past. I removed the knee pads and replaced with a set from my BKS leathers. There are pockets for hip armour, so the BKS pads have gone in there. They also have neat 'loops' for clipping braces onto, so I have used these as well. What with the new bike and the neatness of the jacket, I have only ridden two short journeys in the Dane.... summer riing with no linings. I'm impressed, although the knee armour sits a litle low when walking, but fine whilst riding..... Rukka is good when walking as well.
I havent tried it in the rain yet, but am planning an 8 day island tour of Scotland in a couple of weeks time..... that will be a proper test if my usual luck for Scottish weather holds up.

gerike

was in and tried thier master suit , it just felt like the rest of thier stuff , not good quality and cheap . the fit was not so good either . Compared to my bmw streetguard suit it didnt rate . Im thinkin of a change at the moment but it must be the xcr tri laminate stuff.

Module Road and Race in Antrim stock this Dane gear too. Jockser and myself had a good look at it a few weeks ago and it certainly seems to be good gear. After the positive comments above it must be worthy of consideration.

Tried it on for size here Aiden. Made Keith at Module an offer of £30 less than his asking price..... he declined and Lo-IQ was on the nose at what I wanted to pay.... so I went with him....

Must be the way the :aidan do business!

Looking for 'Dane' gear

Hey Lo-IQ, did I understand correctly that you can supply 'Dane' gear and it helps to go towards your Russian run or a charity? I'd be most interested so! Sláinte from Ireland (Cheers) :beerjug:

I'm sort of sponsored (I have a trade deal with them that sounds better) I can order it but will need your sizes, etc.

I'll try my best but some places are cheaper than me I guess they get a higher trade rate. The money this raises goes towards my rally attempt hopefully next year.

the best things is give drop me an email with your details

info at nomadtraveller dot co dot uk

the charity thing is slowly changing direction we raised money for Woking Hospice and that's been very good but what I'm now aiming for is to make a work place for someone. Like a modern day apprenticeship scheme, we're talking with the princes trust to see if we do anything together. It's also a good way to remember the bloke that helped me get my company off the ground if that makes any form of sense.

look forward to herig from you

regards

Lo

It has been a while since this was asked but can you still get hold of the Dane jacket and trousers that are talked about in this thread?

I am very interested in a purchase as my existing suit is showing its age and its lack of waterproofness and having read up on a few suits this seems to be the best option for me.

I have been on the link to Riderz but would prefer to buy with some of my money going to a good cause. :thumb

Cheers
